Thermostatic Radiator Valves!
Hopefully everyone will now have their heating turned off now that the weather is warmer. It is a good idea to now turn all your thermostatic radiator valves to maximum (open) to prevent them from sticking in the closed position when left for an extended period.
Valves can stick as they become older but leaving them open when they are not needed should reduce the chance of this when the cold weather returns (probably next week 🤪).

We attended a gas leak today following a gas meter having been replaced. The gas pipe was not protected by a sleeve as it entered the property. As a consequence corrosion had caused a significant hole to develop! Fortunately it was in a well ventilated location. I should probably add that this was a new customer to us and not a property that we had been to before.

We attended an Intergas boiler fault today.
Unfortunately diagnosis points to 3 possible faulty components which are all in excess of ÂŁ200 (and no stock of one component- Intergas themselves are waiting on stock!). Our recommendation was for our customer to contact Intergas for a fixed price repair as likely to be quicker and cheaper in the long run.
Our customers just been back in touch to say that Intergas can’t attend until middle of February! We are trying to figure out the cheapest and quickest options…
Moral of the story- stick with well known (and preferably uk made) brands.

Top tip. With the current sustained low temperatures it’s possible for condensate pipes which run outside to freeze. This can cause a boiler to stop working. Pouring hot (but not boiling) water from a kettle over the affected pipe outside can thaw things out and get the boiler running again ( this process may need to be repeated while the low temperatures continue ).
There are other solutions for long term protection against freezing such as installing trace heating (which we can do).
