Pleased to share that planning permission has been granted for our project at Murroes Church Hall to extend the existing community and assembly space to better reflect the local area's needs.

The design intent of the two extensions is to minimise impact on the lines of the existing building, but to still signify change and a new lease of life for the community resource. Both extensions are simple in form, with traditional construction and flat roofs, that don’t compete with the existing pitched slated roofs. The new front elevation is expressed with a grid of close centred, vertical fins that provide character but also solar shading to the hall.

We are pleased to announce that our latest project has now reached completion: the transformation of a 163-year-old B-listed building in Edinburgh's UNESCO World Heritage site into a contemporary aparthotel. Originally constructed for the Protestant Institute of Scotland, this historic structure features 8 self-contained units, all accessed via the original stone staircase. Our conversion aimed to preserve and enhance both the exterior and interior, maintaining the Victorian architectural integrity while introducing modern elements. Notable features include double-height mezzanine apartments with remarkable views of George IV Bridge, Grassmarket, and Edinburgh Castle.

Delighted to share that the LEEBOYD sponsored dance Hamilton placed 9th in the World at the recent Dance World Cup in Prague. The event had 9500 competitors (only 500 less than the Olympics!) and was a wonderful event to attend. We were happy to sponsor this dance and the DN Dance contingent of the Scotland team. If you are interested you will find more posts on this event at DN Dance Edinburgh and Dance World Cup

Plans for new community hub in Dalgety Bay taking shape

In the heart of Dalgety Bay, a transformation is underway. Dalgety Community Trust has spent the last year laying the groundwork for a vibrant new community hub. The hub isn’t just a replacement for our old community centre; it’s a huge step forward, creating a welcoming space for everyone in Dalgety Bay.

Our journey began with you, the community. Your voices have been the cornerstone of our design process and thanks to our architects, the design team, and Community Enterprise, we’ve ensured that we have woven your feedback into the very fabric of the hub. The summer of 2023 was a hive of activity for us with events, community meetings and a community questionnaire drawing over 600 responses. This has given us valuable insights into what is important to everyone and has guided us in the development of our first stage design.

What does this mean? Well, we are thrilled to be able to unveil the potential of the community’s collective vision—a hub that reflects the spirit of Dalgety Bay. It’s a place shaped by your aspirations, a testament to what we can achieve together. Yet, this is just the beginning. The road ahead is long, with challenges to overcome, but despite this, community support has been overwhelming. This, along with the generous £2m earmarked for our project from Fife Council in June 2023, has only fuelled our determination to drive the project forward to completion.

So what’s next? Looking ahead, the summer of 2024 promises more engagement and excitement. We invite you to join us at the Gala on 8th June, where we’ll share more details and eagerly await your thoughts and feedback.

Stay tuned, Dalgety Bay—our shared dream is becoming a reality, one brick at a time!

Delighted to see the new atrium and factory extension for Terumo Aortic reach completion - a major milestone in the £50m development of their Renfrewshire production facility. The atrium links together existing buildings within the wider complex, providing a bright and airy hub for staff and a welcoming new entrance and reception facility.

We were saddened to hear that Scott Lee, one of the founders of Lee Boyd, died recently after a long illness. Scott has not been with the practice for some time, but his influence and personality live on every day in our work. Scott was passionate about his craft and remained interested in his legacy and the work of Lee Boyd long after leaving. As a practice we thrive on the strength of our relationships with our clients, often both professional and friendly. This was a defining characteristic of Scott’s approach to practice such that there will be many outside and inside the profession with fond memories of their time working with Scott.
