Greenspace Architects Eco-architectural practice based in Ellesmere, Shropshire

greenspace architects ltd was established by architects Kevin Slack and the late Robert Netherwood, who had run a practice in the town in partnership with his wife Anne since 1984. Sole Director Kevin - both a chartered architect and a qualified interior designer - has concentrated on larger-scale new build projects focused on residential, education, hotel & leisure developments and urban regenera

tion schemes, including the sports hall at Glyndŵr University, Wrexham, the interiors at the Ramada Plaza Hotel also in Wrexham and a large residential scheme at Masshouse in Birmingham's Eastside regeneration area. He strives to make sustainability a part of the everyday, rather than an add-on, and has achieved BREEAM Excellent and EcoHomes ratings on a number of projects. Central to our philosophy is the desire that all projects undertaken by greenspace architects ltd – whether small alterations and extensions to a house or a large commercial development - will be sustainable in the widest sense and aim to increase the energy efficiency – and therefore reduce energy bills and carbon emissions - of existing buildings or create highly efficient eco-friendly new buildings, whilst in all cases improving the look and feel of a building or place.

This modern extension to a house in Wiltshire has recently been completed.

We were commissioned to replace a conservatory with a modern, timber clad extension not only to provide a good kitchen/dining/living space, but change the focus of the windows to provide sky views and a view through a gap between the neighbouring buildings. All this was achieved while still providing privacy from the house to the rear and side of the property.

The clients had already done a lot of work improving its performance and it was a registered Superhome: the highly efficient SIPs extension has improved this further. The project shows how fantastic spaces can be created even within a developer house and can vastly improve the living spaces and value of your existing home.

This project is nearing completion which looks to create a new passive standard home to replace a former fire damaged bungalow on a sloping site in the small village of South Croxton.

Set across three levels, three wings spread outwards from a central rotunda where the roof forms aim to mimic that of nearby agricultural buildings.

More to follow.

We've been working alongside a number of companies to provide housing for the homeless in East Hampshire. The new housing is provided through the conversion of a redundant village hall and the addition of new 'housing pods'.

We recently went down to see the project handed over to a local charity following completion!

We're excited to announce we have been shortlisted for the William Sutton Prize 2021 for Sustainability & Placemaking for our proposals in collaboration with the Apley Estate at Stanmore.

What a fantastic start to the new year this is! Following our shortlisting we will meet the judges on the 1st February 2022 to discuss our design ideas and aspirations going forward for this project. This is a bid to win prize money to support the development of the project into the next stage allowing us time and resources to freely explore our ideas.

An interior photograph of a barn currently in for planning to be converted into a 4 bedroom house. The usual ecological constraints caused by nesting birds and bats have increased the complexity of this application but negotiations continue with the local authority towards a positive outcome!
