Located just outside of Ely, Metro Rod Cambridge offers a comprehensive Drain Care and Repair service in and around the Cambridgeshire and Norfolk areas and are fully accredited with the Water Jetting Association and the National Sewage Association. Our services Include:

This service enables you to track & trace route and depth of pipes from above ground

- Pipe relining & patch repairs (excavation not required)
Using the latest drain technology we can reline and repair sections of damaged, broken, and cracked pipes without the need to excavate. We are able to locate the damaged section using CCTV and install an epoxy resin hot cured liner which adheres to the host pipe giving maximum strength to return the pipe to a water tight condition.

- Root removal (excavation not required)
With the aid of CCTV we can locate the area of root damage and remove roots using a mechanical cutter. This section of pipe will then be relined to prevent further root infiltration.

- Excavation
We can carry out full excavations to repair collapsed drains, our engineers hold Street Works certificates enabling excavations to be carried out on private land and in Highways. Area's Covered (ALL AREAS COVERED INCLUDE SURROUNDING TOWNS AND VILLAGES)

You may not be surprised to hear that blocked drains make up a huge amount of our work. Funny that. Yep, the team are all too used to getting elbows deep in waste.

We recently had a call-out to Tesco, where the drains were backed up in their yard. It needed urgent attention before it became a bigger problem and spilt out onto the road. Shaun returned with the tanker to empty the pump chamber and then disposed of the waste at the local waste disposal site.

Not all our jobs are quick fixes, and some involve a bit of trial and error. But that’s all part of the job, and we love a challenge…

Shaun attended a job where he tried clearing a blocked toilet using HPWJ (high-pressure water jetting) and rodding, which the team usually tries first and is often very effective. Sadly, that didn’t clear the blockage. So he removed the toilet, and guess what he found? Yep, a toilet freshener: one of the most frustrating things we find – and way more often than we care to!

Another day, another post about Aco drains…lucky you!

We harp on about PPM (Planned Preventive Maintenance) all the time. More than is healthy. But we shall continue to preach. Larger businesses nearly always carry out PPM, but more and more smaller businesses are realising its importance too, because prevention is always better than a bigger, more costly repair job. This job involved a trip to Aldi, but not for groceries.

Some of the PPM work included cleaning all internal and external drainage systems. The team also cleaned all traps and the loading bay Aco drains, and high-pressure water-jetted the external drains.

Are you an experienced HGV driver looking for your next opportunity? We are looking for a reliable, hardworking and motivated Drainage Tanker Driver to join our growing team!

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a Class 2 HGV licence who takes pride in their work and is keen to develop their skills within the drainage industry.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐞:
As a Drainage Tanker Driver, you will be responsible for carrying out a range of drainage and tanker services for domestic and commercial customers. Your duties will include:
• Operating a vacuum tanker safely and efficiently.
• Emptying and cleaning septic tanks, grease traps and interceptors.
• Removing waste and ensuring it is disposed of at the appropriate authorised facilities.
• Supporting drainage engineers with clearance and maintenance works when required.
• Carrying out vehicle checks and ensuring the tanker is kept clean and well maintained.
• Completing job sheets and relevant paperwork accurately.
• Delivering excellent customer service while representing the company professionally.
• Following all health and safety procedures and environmental regulations.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐖𝐞'𝐫𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐫:
• Essential: Class 2 HGV driving licence (Category C).
• Previous drainage industry experience is preferred but not essential for the right candidate.
• Experience operating vacuum tankers would be an advantage.
• A strong work ethic and a reliable, professional attitude.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A flexible approach to working hours, including overtime when required.

Today, we are talking about a job that we completed right back at the start of the year…but you know how much we hate wasting content.

Have you seen this type of drain before? Probably not, but we guarantee you will notice them everywhere now that we have mentioned them. Ladies and gentlemen, let us introduce you to Aco drains…

We were called out to Muller Milk and More to clear the drainage channels as they were heavily blocked. As you can see, they were clogged to the top! Our engineer removed the covers and manually removed large amounts of silt and debris, then high-pressure water-jetted the line to ensure it was clear and clean.

This is the perfect post to make cheesy comments about our ‘big boy toys’, but we are classier than that. Lies. We aren’t 😂😂😂.

Ricky has been busy descaling upstream and downstream from a car park inspection chamber. This job required our big boy toys (yes, we did it again): the iTouch CCTV camera and the Picote Miller machine.

It’s OK not to be OK, and it’s not embarassing to ask for help. Today is World Mental Health Day, and it’s a date in the diary we can’t ignore.

Speaking openly about this topic and supporting one another can break down the stigma and create spaces where people feel safe, seen, and heard. Seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Our jobs range dramatically in size, and although a lot of the same things crop up time and time again (don’t get us started on wipes!), no two days are the same in any given week. It’s not all about urinals…

We also know a thing or two about manholes. In fact, we are quite the experts. One of our engineers recently carried out excavation works to raise a foul water manhole and install eight metres of pipework to remove a deformed section of pipework.

The last photo shows that after completing a project, we pride ourselves on how we leave a site. We won’t say we leave it how we found it because usually that would be a very, very bad outcome.

After a site visit to a property in Royston, our team identified an electrical fault with an existing pump that needed replacing. Some things can be fixed; others it’s time to say goodbye…

Once the quote was approved, our engineer returned to carry out the work. This included removing the faulty pump, installing the new unit, reconnecting the existing pipework and electrical supply, and completing full operational testing to ensure everything was working correctly.
