Just a quick update, from Rainbow Gardening!

Spring 2026 -

As you may know we have sold the nursery on Farm Lane. We have had a wonderful time over the last five years but decided that we needed to concentrate on our core garden maintenance and landscape business.

Our services include:

JOBS AROUND THE GARDEN FOR FEBRUARY

Snowdrops: Planting and Care

• Snowdrops can be planted during February. Alternatively, you may divide and replant established clumps whilst they still have leaves or flowers. Replanting at this stage allows them to settle in successfully.

To plant snowdrops, select a weed-free area with moisture-retentive soil that receives partial shade. Enhance the soil by adding organic material to increase its ability to hold moisture. Bulbs should be planted at a depth of roughly twice their own height. Firm the soil around them and water well to support their recovery and establishment.

Winter-flowering Heathers: Pruning

• Lightly prune winter-flowering heathers to remove faded blooms and maintain neat, tidy plants.

Winter Bedding Plants: Maintenance

• Remove spent flowers from winter bedding plants. Take out any that have suffered damage or have died due to wet or cold weather conditions.

Hellebores: Disease Management

• Cut off any diseased leaves from Hellebores to improve their overall appearance.

Ornamental Grasses: Cutting Back

• Now is the ideal time to cut back straw-like deciduous grasses such as Miscanthus, Hakonechloa, Panicum, and Calamagrostis. For less hardy Pennisetums wait another month, as their foliage protects emerging shoots from frost. Use sharp shears or secateurs to cut grasses right down to the ground. If there are green shoots at the base, cutting away old top growth will not harm them. Rake up and compost any old debris.
