Update from Sheffield on a day for Peckering around. The foundations have been poured and levelled for the base that the Gaia statue will sit comfortably in.

Chris is on site tomorrow who created the beautiful masterpiece. We will be lifting her into place for him to put her head/hair features back into place. Once she’s in it will be time to set the boulders and start connecting the traffic flow for the garden.

We are currently down in Sheffield for most of June having started this week down on the brutalist Park Hill regeneration project which was once a RIBA Sterling Prize finalist project.

We are rehoming one of the RHS Chelsea Flower show projects from this year to its forever home here with the full squad Paul, Andrew and Sam the man.

It has been a nice week of mapping things out and getting the footings in place for the hand carved ‘Gaia’ statue created by Chris Wood.

Hoping for slightly better conditions next week and to getting her in place so we can landscape around her and make some great progress!

Shepley Project details…

Here are some images of the Kitchen from the recently completed Shepley project. We were given pretty much full freedom to put together something for our amazing clients whilst utilising the space to incorporate the items purchased, I feel we did a great job in optimising the area and have given compliment to the beautiful Pergola in the best way!

This was the first time we have carried out anything like this but had the confidence we could do justice to the project. When you have quality materials like the timber we get from Estate Sawmills then half the work is already done for you! It’s then over to Sam the man and his great preparation skills to provide the finishing touches!

We not just have a few trims to add next week and pop some bespoke upper shelving up on the back wall 🪴

Day 2 on the Bespoke Outdoor Kitchen on the Shepley project.

Just the back side of the U to do tomorrow to integrate the fridge and add the Belfast sink before all of the finishing trims glamming this up to the max.

This is by far up there in being one of the most pleasurable projects we’ve worked on. Myself and Sam can’t help but take in every moment on this project, it has been a joy to construct.

Project: The Whittard Of Chelsea 140 Year Anniversary Show Garden
Location: RHS - Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show
Award: Gold Medal 🥇
Designer: Pike Studio Ollie

The last few weeks have been a true whirlwind of emotions. When I was asked to be a part of the build for the garden I was extremely honoured and with a busy run up to the show with our own projects I don’t think it really hit home until the moment myself and Ollie walked through the Chelsea gates on the first day. Then in the days to come new friendships and working relationships were forged and it really started to feel that something truly special was happening!

The time there will be something I’ll look back on for the rest of my life with the fondest of memories. Ollie and Paul, thank you from the bottom of my heart for this opportunity! It was a shame Sam the man couldn’t be there to be a part of it but I’m sure there will be plenty more great great similar experiences in the future that you will get to obtain and will play a vital role in.

Viewing the completed garden at the show on Friday and seeing the crowds flock to see the garden and all of the other spectacular ones at the show was a beautiful insight as to how these true creative geniuses think and work. I am still rather in shock and I still don’t think things have hit home how lucky I am to have been apart of this!

Congratulations Ollie and Paul, and to all of the below who contributed to this stunning project and it’s well deserved Gold Medal. Let’s all raise our cups of tea in a toast 🫖

Project - Whittard of Chelsea Show Garden
Location - RHS - Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show (Chelsea, London)

Here are Days 1-4 of the garden down at Chelsea. Myself, Paul, Brownie and Ollie battled through long hot days to get the core of the project up to speed for the plumbing, planting and finishing touches to come over the coming days before the show opens to the public.

We created a fully reclaimed brick slip wall (including the copper brick inserts for the plumbing to come through, with lime pointing, then it was onto the laying out of the Yorkstone where the twisting brick pillars will land to support the water feature pipe work that will fill the stunning reclaimed containers to imitate the pouring of a ‘Whittard’ cup of tea.

I am truly grateful to Paul and Ollie for giving me this opportunity and experience a build on the biggest Horticultural stage on earth. Has been a pleasure to work with new people and build new and continued working/personal relationships with some of the hardest working, hilariously humble people I’ve ever met.

Hope you all enjoy seeing the finished garden on TV and in the media.

The big one has finally arrived! We have a little thing going on over the course of the next week down south. I’ll be replying to this weeks project meetings tomorrow on the journey down to London and I’ll catch up with any new messages or emails upon my return.

New week new project. 60sqm of Mixed size Grey Indian Stone and a planed bespoke Pergola on the foot hill of Baildon Moor.

Project - Bespoke Pergola & Sawn Paving
Location - Shepley (Huddersfield, West Yorkshire)

Here is Phase 1 of our Shepley project consisting of two decent sized paved areas using the Sawn & Honed Mint 600mm x 900mm stone.

We first started by setting out our sleeper edgings accurately for the surround of the entire project to then have a basis of which to set out our lines and markers for the Pergola uprights. Set 700mm down on a set pad/footing the 150mm framework structure really sets this project off. We then staggered the 195mm and 95mm planed boards as a back wall and mid height wall to the bottom to retain the lovely view to the bottom of the garden out towards Shelley Park.

We will be back here very shortly now to commence with the build of an outside kitchen and bar for under the Pergola.
