Some insight into what it takes to make one off bespoke designed furniture.

Here I have spent many hours working how to get the angles and templates correct to cut accurate mortices into tapered legs and its counter part so I can fit them togeather with a floating tenon. This ensures the legs splay at an exact 10 degree angle and the tables top is level.

At this point I think the tables look a little like a star wars character. Much shaping yet to do but now I can confidently repeat the process in the cherry I have prepared for the client knowing it will be perfect.

It has been really wonderful collaborating with and being commissioned by a client locally here in Devon.

She couldn't find anything to make this space work in her bathroom. So we were able to design something completely bespoke for her.

The beauty of this is she could choose every detail from material choice, finish, dimensions, functionality all way through to in this case inlaid handles and modern shaker doors with flush panels rather than ressessed. This is truly the clients design and meets all her needs.

I hope they get years of enjoyment from it.

Something completely different from fine furniture building. But a lovely day in the workshop here in Devon with my oldest friend. Plus it nice to watch someone else do all the hard work for once! And after all my business is only a success because of the great clients and people I have met along the way.

Back to some free standing furniture with this one. This is a great example of client maker collaboration. We went through several variations untill the client was absolutely happy which I love. What we made was actually a fair step from my initial design. But that the point, if you commission me I want to make something that you love and makes your life better. Even the simplest cabinets get my full level of inspection for quality.

This L shaped media wall is bespoke built from high quality beech plywood internally and finished with a spray lacquer, and the doors are constructed from solid poplar a hard wood to ensure quality and longevity. No MDF of chipboard insight. Face frame and doors are finished in my spray booth with a pigmented lacquer to be hard-wearing and used in high traffic areas.

Question! Would like a one on one furniture building experience with direct tuition? A 3 or 4 day course where you learn how to take rough lumber and make fine furniture in a fully fitted workshop? And at the end, unlike some other courses, leave with a substancial piece of furniture you can say you built?

Its been a fantastic week having my first student in the workshop. Tom of the famed has been my first student gifted to him by his fabulous wife for he 40th birthday. And I'm sure you will agree the coffee table he produced with my guidance is fantastic. Consider this, this is his first attempt at fine furniture with hard woods. Absolutely brilliant.
