A stunning mixed border designed by our very own Ella for a client in Chudleigh.

Ella combined herbaceous perennials, strong shaped evergreens, with a few wild cards in there for an exotic vibe.

When people talk about wanting to transform their garden or outdoor space, they often begin with planting: the flowers they want, the trees they've admired, the border they've been planning in their head for years.

But before any of that can work properly, there needs to be a foundation. Hard landscaping, the walls, paths, terraces, steps, water features, and structures that give a garden its form, this allows the garden to be all that it can be.

Get it wrong and even the best planting plan will fight against you. Get it right and the garden almost plants itself.

Blooming beautiful!

We love this time of year when our client’s gardens really start to show themselves.

It gives our Master Gardeners the opportunity to see their hard work through the winter and the opportunity to tidy up around the blossom for an even more stunning showcase. All of which is part of our maintenance programme.

After the construction of a recent Grand Designs-esque house, this garden was designed for our professional Surrey clients to offer them a low maintenance space for their family to enjoy the incredible vista across the Surrey Hills.

Expertly designed and detailed by Duncan Cargill and Thomas Sykes ( ), it involved ground modelling the area, filling in a dated pond and creating a more modern one with two decks (one cantilevered over the new Koi pond), installation of a full pump, filter and water feature, as well as a new InLite lighting scheme in and around.

Beside the terrace we installed an Adezz trough with a bespoke copper spout fabricated by our specialist. The whole garden was stage 1 planted by our Master Gardeners team and a drip irrigation system fitted.

Stage 2 of planting and rock dressing of the pond is to follow where all the areas will be ground modelled, prepped and seeded.

Box moth caterpillars (Cydalima perspectalis) are continuing to spread quickly and can cause significant damage to box hedging, rapidly stripping foliage and weakening plants if left unchecked.

We are actively helping clients manage and control outbreaks, but early detection is key. Please keep an eye on your box plants for signs such as webbing, green and yellow caterpillars with black markings, and sudden defoliation.

If you notice anything unusual, acting quickly can make a huge difference. Please feel free to get in touch with us if you would like any advice or want us to visit your garden to check for you.
