With yet another heatwave sweeping across the country, here's another interesting way of using natural ventilation and clever planning to cool your building without the need for air conditioning or mechanical ventilation.

When we designed this roof window over the stairwell, the aim was primarily to bring more natural daylight into the heart of the house.

However, in the recent heatwaves, the roof window has provided a much valued secondary purpose. It enables the house owners to use passive stack ventilation to draw cooler air from outside at ground floor level and then the warmer air rises and vents through the roof.

The air movement draws warm air from every room in the house and cools the whole building without the need for air conditioning or even electric fans.

This is a design feature that we think is likely to be come more popular as our climate changes and heatwaves become more frequent.

This is good news for Exeter.
It will be wonderful to see this iconic building in the heart of our city rise up from the ashes.
Looking forward to seeing the end results.

A major milestone for a landmark we all love. ❤️

We are so proud to announce that our plans for The Royal Clarence have been officially approved by Exeter City Council! This project is a huge piece of work for the city, and we feel incredibly lucky to be the team bringing this icon back to life.

Max Sayers was out on the green today filming with ITV News to talk about how we’re blending the building’s dramatic history with the high-quality, sustainable design NooKo is known for (just like our community over at Vyve Gym!).

We’re starting this journey today read all about the approved plans and what’s coming next on our blog: https://nooko.co.uk/news/the-royal-clarence-a-historic-milestone-achieved-plans-approved/
