A project coming to life on Dartmoor…

It’s always great to be involved in a project where the design continues to evolve as the build progresses — and this one, set in the beautiful surroundings of Dartmoor, has been exactly that…. There has been a huge amount of thought, detail and craftsmanship involved, and we’ve really enjoyed working collaboratively alongside Tom Austin Building throughout the process… We’ve always believed that the best results come when the different trades work together. Being able to discuss details on site, adapt where necessary and make those small changes along the way that are ultimately in the best interests of the finished project is a big part of how we like to work.

Our element has involved extensive zinc standing seam roofing and cladding, with plenty of bespoke detailing required to bring everything together — and it’s been a fantastic project for our team to get stuck into. There’s still plenty more to come. Once the remaining slate work is completed and the oak, granite and other specialist finishes all come together, this is going to be a very special property.

An incredible setting, incredible views and a real emphasis on using quality, long-lasting materials that will stand the test of time… Definitely one to watch this space for the finished project.

Every self-build has its own story. It’s where clients invest their time, vision and dreams into creating a forever home. It’s always a privilege to play a small part in bringing that vision to life… This contemporary home in Lyme Regis is one of those projects we’ll always be proud to have been involved with. From the flat roofing and balconies through to the green roof and capping details, every aspect was approached with the care, experience and craftsmanship we’d expect if it were our own home.

Every project deserves more than just a roof. It deserves genuine collaboration, honest advice, experienced craftsmanship and an attention to detail that’s built to last. ⚒️❤️

Another specialist metal roof completed by Artisan Roofing SW Ltd featuring Danny, Charlie and Loz!

This project in Torpoint features a GreenCoat PLX Mountain Grey standing seam roof, designed and installed as a fully vented roof system.

Although this is a relatively modest-sized project, these are often the jobs where homeowners can be caught out the most. Budgets are understandably tighter, making value for money incredibly important, but trying to reduce costs by selecting the wrong product, can ultimately compromise the very vision the client set out to achieve… This client wanted a traditional standing seam metal roof, and that’s where experience becomes invaluable. Being able to work alongside the customer from the design stage, discuss the available products, explain the technical differences, and find practical solutions without compromising the integrity of the roof is exactly the service we aim to provide.

These aren’t systems that can be mastered overnight. They demand years of hands-on experience, an understanding of the materials, appreciation of detailing, thermal movement, ventilation, weathering, and above all, respect for the craft. Having spent almost 30 years in the roofing industry, I’ve learnt that knowledge really is power. Every successful specialist metal roof starts long before the first tray is formed. It begins with good design, the correct build-up, the right materials, and experienced craftsmen who understand how those elements work together.

Traditional standing seam metal roofing is a specialist trade. The material is only one part of the equation; the knowledge, design and craftsmanship behind it are what ultimately determine how well that roof performs for decades to come.

⚒️ Not every day in the workshop involves roofing and façade projects… Every now and then we get the opportunity to turn our hand to something a little different, and this bespoke copper kitchen island worktop was one of those projects.
Designed, fabricated and finished by hand using traditional metalworking techniques and a good deal of patience. 👌
The same traditional tinsmith metalworking skills we use on roofs and façades can also be applied to bespoke architectural and interior pieces, and projects like this are always enjoyable to work on!
Copper is a fantastic material. It looks stunning when first installed, but over time develops its own unique character and patina, meaning no two pieces are ever quite the same.
Really pleased with how this one turned out. 🧡

A project we’re proud to showcase in Exmouth.

This VMZINC Quartz Plus STRAT standing seam installation has been a long time in the making, developed through detailed design and discussions alongside the client and PureBuild Devon Daniel Wyatt

From day one, the focus was on precision. Clean geometry, seam alignment and proportion were key throughout, ensuring every line and detail worked exactly as intended.

Even before the final elements are installed, the zinc already makes a statement. Once the glazing, doors, Corten detailing to the concrete base and landscaping are complete, this scheme will really come to life.

A quality project, a strong collaboration, and a finish we’re proud to put our name to.

Maybarn – From Structure to Statement

This was a fantastic project to be involved in. The design features a 45-degree pitched roof that transitions seamlessly into the façade, with the standing seam trays continuing vertically from the roof plane down through the wall elevations to form one continuous architectural envelope.

This project was completed using GreenCoat PLX Pural – Mountain Grey

Projects like this require much more than simply installing a roofing system. From early stages there was close design collaboration between Artisan Roofing and HM Construction, ensuring the detailing, geometry and sequencing worked so the vision of the building could truly come to life. Our team on site absolutely delivered.

The Sun Is Not Lost ☀️

The sun is not lost, it’s still knocking about,
Just hiding in shadows and dodging the gout
Of sideways rain that soaks through your fleece,
And turns every tea break into a five-minute cease.

It wilts in the drizzle, ducks low in the grey,
Laughs while we’re wrestling details in a gale-force ballet.
But for every tradesman battered and blown,
We graft through the weather, we make it our own.

Cold hands on the seam, wind howling offshore,
“Character building,” we’ve heard that before.
Scaffold poles singing, levels won’t sit,
Yet somehow the finish still looks the business bit.

So no, the sun isn’t gone, just playing hard to get,
Testing the patience of Devon’s finest yet.
And we’ll fight through the squalls, the sideways rain strain,
Until golden hour rolls round and we meet it again

🎄 Merry Christmas from Heavitree Wizards U12s 🎄

I’ve been involved in football since I was very young, and I can quite honestly say I’ve never had as much enjoyment from the beautiful game as I do coaching and being part of grassroots football. For me, grassroots football is all about the journey: helping children enjoy the game, develop properly, and grow in confidence, while learning how to play the right way — without egos, with respect for one another, and as part of a team. It’s about supporting each other, understanding that every one of them is a leader on the pitch in their own way, and knowing they can always rely on one another.

They’re a fantastic group of boys who really buy into our ethos of development, enjoyment, and teamwork. While we absolutely want it to be competitive, what matters most is that they enjoy the journey together, win or lose, face every challenge with a smile and an attitude of positivity, and continue to grow as both players and teammates.

It’s been brilliant to watch them grow, develop, and bond week by week, both on and off the pitch, and I couldn’t be prouder to be their coach alongside Levi.
