ANCIENT ASH!! Found this amazing specimen the other day. A good friend of mine got married and the only pictures I took were of trees. I went for a long walk on my own and found some really amazing trees. The golden light at dusk and insane birdsong had me pinching myself. More pictures will follow but I felt like this tree needed its own post!
It’s pretty rare to find such a large veteran ash, especially one this healthy. So full of vigour and no real signs of ADB. Serious cavity at the base and basal reiterations, points at a practice of open pasture management/ lapsed pollard/coppice. New planting around 30years ago is starting to put pressure on the tree, I advised the landowner to carry out a halo release as pert of their woodland management plan.
