Whilst doing annual testing for a client yesterday we come across an IEC which failed straight away at visual only have a look at the image below.

With most industries we can't emphasise the need to Visual check your equipment regularly we recommend for most industries every 6 months however some of our clients like ourselves operate businesses where equipment is moved regularly every time you do this you really should check your leads for broken or exposed cables or insecure housings.

If you discover a cable or broken plug always isolate the socket before removing to prevent electrical shock.

Failed plugs!

It's been a common thing we have heard the last couple of weeks plugs failing.

Why do plugs fail?

There are various reasons why a plug might fail on you.

1. Older plug with an old fuse or more often than not a loose or broken wire
2. Using incorrect fused plugs to power larger items. It's paramount you use a plug with the correctly rated fuse for the appliance your using.
3. Power surges - in particular when using temporary power solutions or working in buildings with older or outdated electrics. This is why we always suggest using some sort of surge protected socket between your mains access and appliances. With a power surge If all you have to worry about is a blown fuse you've got lucky.
4. User error - probably the most common one. Similar to using incorrectly fuse rated cables, plugging cables into a live electrical main can cause all sorts if unnecessary headache. Always make sure the socket is in the off position before plugging in.

3 days on site working for one of large corporate clients bringing all their office kit (4000 items) to test standard ahead of staff returning to the office.

Alot of smaller businessed including a number of DJ's and Home/Office Cleaners having their appliances tested as the continue to return to the norm.
