These fantastic burrowing creatures are the living, breathing, engineers of the underworld, eating and recycling organic matter to keep our soil healthy.
Also when they burrow through they aerate the soil.
But did you know that the little ring around the worm (saddle) indicates that it is an adult. It turns orange when the worm is ready to mate.
Worms are hermaphrodites having both male and female s*x organs, but need each other to reproduce.
Also earthworms have five hearts.
They also have no lungs and breathe through their skin.. which is why they come to the surface when the ground gets waterlogged.
Worms can also live up to 10 years.

You ever wondered why you get different colour Hydrangeas on the same bush ?

Hydrangea Blooms act like a natural pH indicator for the soil in which the plant grows.

Such blooms have blue sepals when the shrub grows in acidic soil, but develop red or pink sepals when grown in neutral to basic soils.

If the roots of the same bush sample different pH in the soil there will be different colour blooms.

Now is a great time to getting your flower beds and vegetable beds w**d free and ready for spring.
Planting new shrubs or moving old ones.
Pruning shrubs that have finished flowering. Pruning hardy evergreen hedges and renovating deciduous
hedges.
Cutting back deciduous grasses.
Top dressing with bark or gravel around plants after pruning, to help suppress w**ds, insulate the roots and retain moisture.
Now is the ideal time to undertake these jobs.

Perfect little toad ..found in the undergrowth and replaced a little helper to help rid the garden of pests as they will devour slugs, weevils and beetles that will harm your plants if left to there own devices.
