Safety first! ⚠️

Our team recently felled this Ash tree suffering from Ash Dieback - a serious fungal disease caused by Hymenoscyphus fraxineus. This disease attacks the tree’s vascular system, leading to leaf loss, brittle branches, and ultimately structural failure.

Left untreated, Ash Dieback can cause trees to become dangerously unstable, increasing the risk of falling branches or even full tree collapse. This poses a significant threat to people, property, and nearby healthy trees.

While it’s always sad to remove a tree, acting quickly is essential to prevent potential hazards and stop the spread of the disease. By responsibly removing affected trees, we help protect our woodlands, urban green spaces, and future generations of healthy trees.

A tree close to your home isn’t always a problem but it’s something worth keeping an eye on.

Branches touching the roof, gutters filling with leaves, blocked natural light, cracked paving, or movement around walls and fences can all be signs that a tree may need professional attention.

In many cases, the answer isn’t removing the tree completely. Careful pruning, crown reduction or lifting can help manage its size, improve light, clear space around your property and reduce the risk of damage during bad weather.

If you’re unsure whether a tree is too close to your house, it’s always best to get it checked before it becomes a bigger issue.

Whether you’re a homeowner concerned about a tree in your garden, or a commercial client responsible for a site, estate, school, public space or business premises, it’s always better to get tree concerns checked early.

You may need a professional tree check if you’ve noticed:

Dead or hanging branches
Branches overhanging driveways, paths, car parks or buildings
Trees growing too close to roofs, gutters, fences or phone lines
A tree leaning more than usual
Cracks, splits, decay or fungus
Storm damage
Overgrown trees blocking light or access
Trees near public areas, roads or boundaries

Not every tree problem means removal.

In many cases, pruning, crown reduction, crown lifting, dead-wooding or general maintenance can make the tree safer, healthier and better suited to the space around it. At Alan Brind Tree Services, we provide professional tree surgery for domestic, commercial and public sector clients across Hampshire and the wider South East.

Can you cut trees near phone lines, roofs or fences?

Yes but it needs to be done carefully, safely and by the right team.

Trees growing close to buildings, boundaries, phone lines, garages, sheds or fences can be tricky to manage. One wrong cut can cause damage, create safety risks or make the tree unstable.

At Alan Brind Tree Services, we regularly carry out tree pruning, reductions, crown lifting and removals in tight or sensitive spaces. Whether branches are touching your roof, growing over a fence, blocking access, or getting too close to service lines, we can assess the situation and recommend the safest approach.

The answer isn’t always removing the whole tree. In many cases, careful pruning can create the clearance you need while keeping the tree healthy and well-shaped.

Don’t risk tackling awkward tree work yourself.

How often should trees be maintained?

It depends on the tree, its age, condition, location and how close it is to buildings, roads, driveways or public areas.

But as a general rule, most homeowners and site managers should have their trees professionally checked every 1–3 years.

Some trees may only need occasional pruning. Others, especially those near properties, boundaries, car parks, footpaths, schools, estates or commercial sites, may need more regular inspections and maintenance.

You may need tree maintenance sooner if you notice:

Dead or hanging branches
Branches touching roofs, gutters, windows or buildings
A canopy blocking too much light
A tree leaning more than usual
Cracks, splits or decay
Fungus around the base
Branches overhanging driveways, roads or public spaces
Storm damage or sudden changes in shape

Regular maintenance can help keep trees healthier, safer and better suited to the space around them. It can also help prevent small issues becoming larger, more expensive problems later on.

At Alan Brind Tree Services, we provide professional tree pruning, crown reductions, crown lifting, dead-wooding, tree removal, hedge trimming, stump grinding and tree inspections across Hampshire and the wider South East.

Not sure when your trees were last checked?
That’s usually the sign it’s time to get them looked at.

A leaning tree isn’t always dangerous but if the lean has changed, it’s something worth getting checked.

Trees can lean naturally as they grow, especially if they’re reaching for light or growing on uneven ground. But a tree that has started leaning more recently could be a sign of movement, root damage, decay, storm impact or structural weakness.

Warning signs to look out for include:

Cracks or lifting soil around the base
Exposed or damaged roots
Fungus or decay near the trunk
Dead or hanging branches
A lean that has appeared suddenly
A tree leaning towards a house, driveway, road, path or boundary
Recent storm damage or high winds

The answer isn’t always removal. Depending on the tree, its condition and where it’s positioned, pruning, crown reduction, weight reduction or other remedial work may help reduce risk.

At Alan Brind Tree Services, we can assess leaning trees and recommend the safest, most appropriate next step, whether that’s maintenance, monitoring or safe removal if needed.

Don’t wait until the problem becomes urgent.

Are your gutters constantly filling with leaves? 🍂
Here’s why…

Overhanging trees might be the reason.

When branches sit too close to your roofline, they can drop leaves, twigs and debris straight into your gutters. Blocked gutters can lead to overflowing water, damp issues, roofline damage and unnecessary maintenance costs.

The solution isn’t always removing the tree. In many cases, careful pruning, crown lifting or reducing overhanging branches can help create better clearance while keeping the tree healthy and well-shaped.

We can assess the trees around your property and recommend the best approach, whether that’s pruning back branches, crown reduction, dead-wooding or general tree maintenance.

Keep your gutters clearer and your property better protected.

That branch over your driveway is not as harmless as it looks.

It might seem like “just one branch” but overhanging branches can become a real problem if they’re dead, damaged, too heavy, or weakened by wind and weather. A branch hanging over your driveway could put cars, visitors, delivery drivers, pedestrians and your property at risk.

Common warning signs include:

Cracks or splits in the branch
Deadwood or no leaves during growing season
Fungus or decay around the branch union
Branches rubbing or crossing
A branch that has started to sag lower than usual
Heavy growth over driveways, paths or parking areas

The answer isn’t always removing the whole tree. In many cases, careful pruning, crown lifting, dead-wooding or crown reduction can make the area safer while keeping the tree healthy and well-shaped. At Alan Brind Tree Services, we can assess overhanging branches and recommend the right approach for your property.

Don’t wait until a branch comes down to take action.
