Did you know that some householders in central Kent can have their septic tanks replaced for free as part of scheme designed to protect the county's rivers?

The scheme targets properties whose existing systems discharge excess phosphorus and nitrogen into Kent's waterways and aims to help protect Stodmarsh SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest).

Those within the River Stour catchment area, which borders areas including Ashford, Maidstone and Canterbury, may be eligible for a new, free septic tank from the National Rivers Consortium.

Old septic tanks are among the biggest sources of phosphorus and nitrate pollution in rivers like the Wensum, Stour and Medway — and most homeowners have no idea their systems are contributing to the problem.
NRC is on a mission to fix that, at no cost to you.
We manage the full upgrade process from start to finish: survey, installation, verification and monitoring. You don't pay a penny — and every upgraded system helps restore the health of your local river.
✅ Free of charge — fully funded upgrade
✅ Managed end-to-end by our team
✅ Takes 2 minutes to register
If your property has a septic tank in Norfolk or Kent, find out if you qualify today.
