The Daily Star has picked up comments from our Technical Manager, Niall Gallagher, on gull behaviour during nesting season. Fair to say the headline leans a bit harder than the reality.

Niall’s quote actually comes from his latest PPC piece, where he talks about the very real challenges of working with gulls. Protected species, complex licensing, plenty of public scrutiny… and yes, they can be confrontational when nesting.

Nothing most of you don’t already know. But it’s a good example of how quickly sensible, technical commentary can get dialled up into something a bit more dramatic once it hits the tabloids.

Still, good to see professional voices being included in the conversation, even if the tone gets… adjusted.

⚡ General public glue trap SALES ban to be debated ⚡

This week, Parliament will debate draft regulations that would allow for the prohibition of the sale of rodent glue traps across the UK 🚫

BPCA has long lobbied for the removal of these tools from amateur users, while maintaining access for professionals. If approved, this legislation would represent a step forward.

However, enforcement and clarity will be critical 🚨

BPCA will continue working closely with Defra and policymakers to ensure the intent of the legislation is upheld, while also pushing for practical, robust access arrangements for professionals where public health is at risk.
