A stick, a hook to nylon and a worm found by the bank was the first time my wife saw me catch a fish nearly 35 years ago, walking along the Brecon Monmouthshire canal and seeing dace taking flies of the top. Sad to hear the problems the Brec Mon are having now with water supply could lead to it drying up and being lost.
So many problems with canals in recent years and from an angling standpoint we only see part of the problem, some fishing places lost, but there’s so many businesses that rely on canals, tourism, Bankside cafes, marinas, and of course the people who live in Boats. It would be a rational disaster if the canal was lost, any canal, and especially due to lack of water due to abstraction for houses.
More money needs to be spent on reservoirs and water treatment plants, and the infrastructure to get it to new homes being built, and not taking water from and dumping sewage in to our rivers, money that should come from renationalising the water companies and stopping the dividends, interest payments, consultancy fees(for what?) bonuses to bosses who’s only target seems to be providing the dividends to shareholders.
All the money on fines against them just puts the bills up to consumers, and as it’s a monopoly and a bill we are obligated to pay by law.
Forget net zero, sort out the water first!!!
