A conversion of traditional brick and flint barns, shaped around a new courtyard with a natural swimming pond at its heart.

From the earliest sketch design stages, we're always looking for opportunities to enhance biodiversity and bring nature into the everyday experience of a home. Here, the courtyard allows the existing buildings and landscape to work together, with water, generous planting and new habitats woven into the design.

The natural swimming pond becomes part of the character of the courtyard, a beautiful place to swim and enjoy, while creating a richer environment for the plants and wildlife.

We believe these ideas are most successful when considered from the outset, allowing architecture, landscape and nature to develop together.

Recently completed in the West Sussex countryside!

A calm, considered bathroom where material quality and everyday functionality were developed hand in hand. Warm oak joinery, soft neutral stone and muted green tiles create a natural palette, complemented by carefully selected sanitary ware and crisp black detailing.

Behind the finishes, the plan was given equal attention, balancing generous circulation, storage, natural lights and a spacious walk-in shower to create a room that feels both effortless and practical.

A project where the quality is found in workmanship, finishes, design and spatial planning.

We've thoroughly enjoyed having Lauren join us at Pell-Stevens Architects for a week of work experience!

Throughout the week, Lauren has gained an insight to the role of the Architect, the various stages of the design process, and the day-to-day life of a busy architectural studio. She is very keen to progress her career within Architecture, particularly via the degree apprenticeship route.

She has worked on reliving one of our current live projects. where she developed in-depth site analysis, visited the site to experience the project first-hand, and developed her ideas through drawing and 3D modelling. She has also tested her ideas through the use of AI as a design development research tool.

It's been a pleasure having Lauren join us in the studio. We hope the week has provided plenty of inspiration for the future. Best of luck! 👏

We're delighted to see this project now complete, its our clients settled in and enjoying their new home.

From the outset, our priority was to create an internal layout that worked effortlessly for everyday life. We carefully considered the flow of the home, designing generous, connected spaces that make living, moving and gathering feel natural.

The entrance hall provides a bright, welcoming arrival for family and visitors alike, while the heart of the home is a spacious kitchen signed for everything from preparing meals to hosting family and friends. Every decision was guided by how the spaces would be used, ensuring the home supports the rhythm of our clients lifestyle.

Seeing a project progress from the first sketch to a finished home is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. A new lease of life for this home 🏠

This Tudor-style home had suffered from deteriorating render, weather damage, and structural issues that threatened both its appearance and longevity. Our refurbishment addressed these challenges through targeted structural repairs and a complete renewal of the external façade, ensuring the building is stable, protected, and fit for the future.

Careful attention was given to preserving the property's character while enhancing its architectural presence. The result is a home where structural performance and architectural character have been successfully brought together.

Settling gently into the West Sussex countryside, this new build home is ally beginning to feel part of its landscape as we near completion. The material palette is coming together beautifully, allowing the design intent to fully emerge; a calm, contemporary home rooted in its rural setting. 🏡

Inside, the dramatic atrium roof light is becoming a defining feature of the scheme. Its huge expanse of glazing floods the entrance hall with natural light, creating a bright and welcoming arrival experience while drawing the ever changing sky deep into the heart of the home.

With the kitchen now being installed, the home is beginning top are on a new sense of life and character. It's exciting to see how this family could start to use these spaces for day to day activities.

It's exciting to see these layers unfold as the project moves towards completion this summer.

Site progress at this New Forest family home is taking shape beautifully! The reconfigured ground floor layout is beginning to reveal a bright, spacious kitchen and dining area designed to enhance both circulation and connection throughout the home.

'Crittall' style windows to the front elevation transform the new entrance hall, flooding the space with natural light and creating a warm, welcoming first impression from the moment you step inside. The generous openings and carefully considered proportions are already bringing a real sense of openness to the project.

As Contract Administrator, the team continue to work closely with both client and contractor, overseeing quality on site and providing guidance throughout the construction process to help bring the project vision come to life.

The Black Barn is a listed barn in the New Forest countryside. With planning consent and listed building consent obtained to convert to residential, we are currently working through the specification and technical drawings through RIBA work stage 4.

With expansive experience with listed properties and barn conversions, projects of this nature always excite us. The detailing opportunities really allow us to express the character and nature of the building, providing a clear narrative to the design.

The barn is surrounded by gorgeous countryside, which will provide unbelievable views from the living spaces, and create a clear, intimate connection with the biodiverse garden. There are many intriguing features to the Black Barn, from its interesting roof form to the 114 year old concrete reinforcement structure, with messages engraved within from its constructors.
