As I continue to play catch-up after being away last month, I have been planning on updating the evening class structure.
The way we structure the classes is very different to the majority of Muay Thai gyms and when I first designed it over 15years ago, it took a lot of thought and planning, even though on the outside it looks simple now, but itโs time for a changeโฆ
Essentially our raw beginners donโt really hold pads for each other but get one-on-one padwork, which I feel is the best way to kick-start their journey in the sport.
We then continue this PT style throughout the team, so everyone gets solid coaching. This requires the seniors to give a lot back and at times where the fight team might be AWOL after events, injury/illness it has often asked too much from them.
The other downsides are that it drastically limits our capacity and keeps us to a rigid session plan as everyone expects to get their padwork rounds.
Effectively, we will still centre sessions around the same padwork system, but it will be one giant mixed session from 6:10pm and with some next-level planning and multitasking, I can give the sessions more scope to go off plan and importantly not ask too much from the seniors who keep our system running!
We will effectively have 4 groups overlapping, working together and with different things happening at the same time.
It sounds chaotic, but really itโs just what weโve always done, but more structured and leaves more time for me to go off plan or take technical deep dives!
The groups and times are as follows:

New members just getting to grips with striking and arenโt really ready to hold pads and pass on the basics to anyone else.

Solid striking and could give one of the fighters a workout on the pads even if they couldnโt teach them anything.

(You can come to either class! But protective equipment and gumshield is an obvious requirement for sparring.)
