If autumn is the goal, here's what the timeline actually looks like.

A lot of people assume you can start the process in September and be in your new kitchen by October. The reality is a little different β€” and worth knowing now rather than later.

Here's how it breaks down.

Design appointment β€” this is where it starts. A conversation about your space, your brief, and what's possible. We can usually get you in within a week or two of getting in touch.

Design and specification β€” once we know what you want, we put the full design together. This takes a couple of weeks to get right. Rushing this stage is where mistakes happen.

Installation β€” usually around 5 days for a standard kitchen, a little longer for more complex projects.

Work that back from the end of October and the conversation needs to be starting now.

Not to create pressure where there isn't any. Just because that's genuinely how the timeline works β€” and the families who get their kitchen fitted in autumn are the ones who started the conversation in July or August.

We get asked a lot about what makes the biggest difference in a kitchen.

New doors. Better worktops. More storage. All of it matters.

But if we're being honest about the single change that transforms how a kitchen actually works β€” it's nearly always the same answer.

The triangle.

Not the shape of the kitchen. The relationship between three points: the hob, the sink, and the fridge.

In a well-designed kitchen, these three things form a natural triangle that lets you move between them without crossing yourself, without turning into someone else, without covering the same ground twice. Everything flows.

In a poorly designed kitchen β€” even a beautiful one β€” these three points are in the wrong relationship to each other. And you feel it every single time you cook. The walk back to the fridge after you've started. The hob that faces a wall instead of the room. The sink that's just slightly too far from everything else.

Most people don't identify it as a layout problem. They just know something feels off.

That's the first thing we look at in every design appointment. Before colours, before door styles, before anything visual β€” where are these three points going to sit, and how is the person who uses this kitchen most going to move between them?

Get that right and everything else falls into place.

Get it wrong and no amount of beautiful cabinetry fixes it.

What actually happens at a free A&S design appointment.

A lot of people put off booking one because they're not sure what they're walking into.

So here's exactly what to expect.

You come in. Katie will make you a coffee. There's no clipboard, no sales script, no pressure to make any decisions on the day.

The first thing we do is talk.

Not about kitchens β€” about how you use your space at the moment.

What drives you mad about it.

How your household moves through the kitchen on a normal day.

Who cooks, when, and with how much chaos involved.

From there, Adrian or Stewart will start putting ideas together.

Not a generic template dropped into your measurements β€” an actual design built around what came out of that conversation.

By the end of the appointment you'll have a clearer picture of what's possible in your space, what it's likely to cost, and whether we're the right fit for each other.

That last part matters to us.

We'd rather have an honest conversation early than take on a project that isn't right.

The appointment is free. It takes around 45 minutes to an hour.

Done badly, it's one of the most frustrating.
