Smoke Alarm Legislation - February 2021
All homeowners within Scotland are required to comply with the legislation changes, which are due to come into place in February 2021. Due to COVID-19, the Scottish government may delay this by 12 months.
In brief;
🔹️ 1 smoke alarm must be installed within your livingroom.
🔹️ 1 smoke alarm must be installed in every hall way, of every level within your property.
🔹️ 1 heat detector installed within your kitchen.
🔹️ THESE MUST ALL BE INTERLINKED! In the event of a fire, you may not hear the alarm closest to the fire, but when they are all interlinked, all alarms will sound to alert you immediately.
🔹️ Where there is a carbon-fuelled appliance (such as boilers, fires (including open fires) and heaters) or a flue, a carbon monoxide detector is also required which does not need to be linked to the fire alarms.
Failure to comply with the legislation changes, may void your home insurance!
Contact us today if you have any questions regarding these changes, and what this means for your property! We can arrange to bring your property up to a standard to meet these new requirements!
