🌸 The Avoch Balsam Bashers are looking for volunteers! 🌸

The local community in Avoch have been tackling Himalayan balsam in the burns around the village since 2023 and they'll looking for new volunteers to help. 🌱💪

Everyone is welcome and no experience is needed! The plant can simply be pulled up by hand or cut with w**d wackers but control work will take place along burns so this does involve walking on uneven ground.

They have three sessions planned over the coming weeks:
🌿 20 June at 10am
🌿 26 June at 2pm
🌿 1 July at 2pm

The other new case study we've added to the website is a complex gas works site remediation.

The site was small but had restricted access, was in close proximity to residential properties, had in-tact tar boxes (complete with free-phase coal tar) and bordered a river. Previous site investigations had demonstrated the risk to the environment from NAPL contamination, hence the need to remediate the site.

ERS removed the relic gas works infrastructure and successfully installed a grouted cut-off wall to prevent NAPL from migrating off-site. The remaining soil was stabilised using infill grouting. Free phase tars and heavily contaminated material was removed for off-site disposal at a suitably licenced facility and backfilled with clean material.

For more information on the site and the works carried out by ERS, visit our website. The link to the case study will be provided in the comments 👇

We've added a new hydrocarbon contaminated soil bioremediation project to our case study archive.

This former hospital site in Inverness had been purchased by a housebuilder who hoped to develop the site. Following several phases of site investigation ERS carried out for the client's consultant, bioremediation was selected as the preferred remediation strategy due to it being the most cost-effective option. However, that made timescales tight and the client also wanted the works completing over winter.

ERS completed the works on schedule and on budget over the winter allowing the client to progress to the building phase.

For more info on the site constraints and how ERS enhanced aerobic bioremediation rates to meet remediation targets despite the colder weather, visit our website. Link to the case study will be posted in the comments 👇
