Just finished this fantastic transformation of a master bedroom. In a couple of days, this room went from the light and airy "before" to the striking, modern “after” you see here.

Here is a breakdown of the quality products and methods used to get this finish:

Preparation: Walls and wood all sanded using the trusty dustless sanding system to keep mess to a minimum and give perfect, flat surfaces to work on.

Ceiling: Refreshed with Johnstones Ultraflat Matt for a flawless finish

Walls: Painted in a striking, client-supplied Valspar shade called Starry Night.

Woodwork: Finished with Johnstones Aqua Undercoat and Aqua Guard Durable Gloss for a brilliant, long-lasting shine.

The contrast between the deep navy walls and the crisp white woodwork looks incredible. It just goes to show how much of an impact the right colour choice can make.

Standard white ceilings definitely have their place, but I love it when a client wants to try something completely different now and again. It takes a bit of nerve to look at a ceiling and say "make it pink," but stepping outside the comfort zone can give you great results.

I’ve recently upgraded to a dustless sanding system for all prep work before decorating.

Preparation is where the quality of a job is really decided, and this setup lets me do it properly without filling your home with dust.

In the video below you’ll see the sander connected directly to my dust extractor. When I switch it on and press the sander to the wall, it actually holds itself there. That’s the level of suction pulling the dust straight through as I work.
