Thomas Johnstone began trading in Maybole in Ayrshire as a jobbing joiner in 1868. Yesterday, our team ran 10K in Paisley and Edinburgh, raising nearly £2,000 for SAMH .

Well done to everyone who took part and challenged themselves for a cause that matters.

The funds raised will support SAMH’s work across Scotland, helping people experiencing mental health problems and the people who support them.

This summer, we welcomed seven new apprentices across a range of departments within our business. Welcome to team TJL: Dan, Lewis, Dylan, Tabitha, Aidan, Brodie, and Josh!

Investing in the next generation is an important part of who we are, giving young people the opportunity to develop practical skills, gain hands-on experience and build long-term careers in the industry.

As a Platinum member of The 5% Club, we're committed to creating meaningful career opportunities through apprenticeships, graduate programmes and other early careers initiatives. By learning from experienced colleagues and getting involved in live projects, our newest apprentices will gain the skills and confidence needed to build successful careers in the industry.

The TJL team is taking on the Paisley 10K!

On Sunday 16 August, members of the TJL team will be taking part in the Paisley 10K, raising funds for Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH).

Mental health affects us all, and SAMH plays an important role in supporting people and communities across Scotland.

Guidis is ready to reopen!

Following the devastating fire in 2021, TJL led the redevelopment, transforming the fire-damaged site into the new home of Trattoria Guidi and The Capocci Man.

Working alongside the Guidi family and the wider project team – 10Design, Inkdesign Architecture, Doig & Smith, McColm Civil & Structural Engineers and Butler Consulting – we've helped bring a much-loved local landmark back to life.

While the building is new, the spirit of Guidis remains. Familiar spaces have been reimagined with bespoke finishes, quality craftsmanship and thoughtful design, creating a restaurant that's ready for the next chapter while honouring its past.

It's been a fantastic project to be part of, and we're proud to have played our role in restoring a place that's been at the heart of the Airdrie community for generations.

Progress update from Troon Leisure Centre 👷

We're now halfway through the programme, with several key milestones completed.

✔️ Steel structure erected for the extensions.
✔️ Floor concrete pours completed, including the installation of the gas membrane.
✔️ South end of the roof completed.

Work is now progressing on the external walls and roof, where insulation, liner panels, cavity barriers and zinc cladding are being installed. These works will improve the building's thermal efficiency while creating a durable, weather-tight finish.

We're delivering the transformation of Troon Leisure Centre for South Ayrshire Council, in partnership with Alliance Leisure through the UK Leisure Framework.

One year on from the completion of Playfair House and the Category B-listed Forth House in the heart of Edinburgh.

As the main contractor, we delivered the transformation of the two buildings into a 66-bed Supercity Aparthotel, creating high-quality accommodation that continues to support Edinburgh's thriving hospitality and tourism sector.

A year later, it's great to see the development welcoming visitors from around the world and contributing to Edinburgh's vibrant city-centre hotel offering.

Last week, we welcomed the team from to our workshop for a behind-the-scenes look at how our projects come to life.

During their visit, they spent time with several of our workshop departments, gaining a better understanding of the processes, expertise, and craftsmanship involved in delivering high-quality manufacturing solutions.

It's always a pleasure to welcome architects and designers into our workshop to see first-hand how our teams work together to turn designs into finished products.

An important part of our Manufactured Joinery process is agreeing on samples with our clients and their design teams. For each project, we create bespoke samples that match:

🔹An existing element of the space (such as flooring),
🔹 A specific Egger colour,
🔹 The drawings provided

We also invite designers to visit our Paint Shop, where they can observe the process and provide real-time feedback.

Samples are then refined as needed until the client approves the final controlled sample.

Another successful project completed for in Edinburgh.

Our Small Works team recently finished a new deck terrace installation, delivered just in time for the warmer months and outdoor dining season.

Having worked with Contini on multiple projects over the years, it’s great to continue building a strong ongoing partnership with a business that values quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

A great space ready to be enjoyed throughout the summer.

Exciting milestone at Guidis!🇮🇹

The new signs are now installed, marking an iconic moment as this much-loved local Italian restaurant nears reopening its doors.

It’s been a privilege to act as the main contractor on a project with strong community significance, helping bring the restaurant back to the area.

We’re looking forward to sharing the completed space very soon.
