Important post. Well worth a read.
In the UK the average electrical consumption for a home is around 3500 kWh’s. In January my home consumed just over half the yearly average!
So that’s a headline grabber, right? Well let’s dive in. That 1800 kWh’s cost around £150 for the month. That’s all electric usage, all heating and water heating. Charging an EV roughly 1000miles and charging the hybrid works van 5/6 nights a week.
No gas bills, no gas standing charge. No going to the petrol station for motor fuel. House a constant 20 degrees via the heat pump. All this possible due to an EV tariff and a good sized battery storage system, 28 kWh’s.
Here’s the really good bit. We pay our provider £1 per month on account but we export more energy in pounds & pennies in the summer than we need in the winter/heating months. So our home is an income generator not a liability. It’s also very environmentally friendly.
You will hear all this renewable tech doesn’t work. Here’s proof it does work. 1930’s bungalow. EV tariff, good solar system with battery storage. 7kW heat pump. Glasgow.
