Just a three-minute walk connects the workshop, the family home, and Bumblebee - this beautiful lifestyle shop lovingly curated by Paul’s wife, Elvera. Set within a 200-year-old sandstone cottage, bumblebee is filled with thoughtfully sourced homeware.

Throwback to Glasgow 2014🏅

As this year’s Commonwealth Games come to a close, we’re reflecting on one of our proudest commissions.

Paul Hodgkiss Designs was honoured to design and handcraft the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games podiums, medal trays and over 1,500 Glasgow elm quaichs presented to athletes.

Crafted from locally sourced and salvaged elm and sycamore, with support from Glasgow City Council. Each podium celebrated Glasgow’s heritage through sustainable Scottish timber and traditional craftsmanship.

This bespoke kitchen celebrates natural materials, craftsmanship and architectural heritage.

The original stonework was carefully revealed and restored, creating a striking backdrop to handcrafted limed-oil Elm cabinetry. Floral carvings inspired by the Arts & Crafts movement bring warmth and character, while limestone flooring and marble worktops complete the timeless material palette.

The project extended beyond the kitchen to include the pantry, utility room and bathrooms, creating a cohesive family home rooted in tradition and built to last.

This bespoke staircase is crafted from Scottish Elm and finished with Rubio Oil. It celebrates the natural warmth and character of the timber, allowing its rich grain to become a defining feature of the home.

Our signature Seed Pod balustrade introduces a sculptural focal point, paired with slender steel spindles and sandblasted glass panels that bring lightness and transparency to the design. The flowing free-fall handrail creates a sense of effortless movement, while subtle falling leaf details provide a quiet nod to the natural inspiration behind the piece.
