Two grapevines growing inside the greenhouse. Black one is called Zilga , Latvian variety and highly suited for the uk climate. Very dark, aromatic and sweet grapes. The white one is bred in the Netherlands and perfect for the Scottish weather. Sweet and early fruit.
Both can be grown outside happily in the UK.
Both are early fruiters, vigorous growers and very hardy.
Happy and simple gardening.

How I plant tomatoes and what’s important when growing them.

Planted my tomatoes from , I bought these when visited the
I’m thrilled as I didn’t have tomatoes for couple of years but so looking forward again.
Did you see the grapevines , their tiny flowers are busy with pollinators in string. And now they are dripping with fruit/ grapes.
I have white and black traditional varieties, which means the grapes are small but insanely sweet.

Happy gardening!

This one is just spectacular, it supposed to reach over 3 m, ideal for covering fences or against warm brick walls.
Happy gardening

Walking around the magical walled garden in Scone Palace.
The pleaching of the trees is spectacular. Going around corners too and following the shape of the garden.

Met Camilla at the Scone palace garden fair and spoke about few unusual varieties. Bought three tomato seedlings and ended up with four. Her business is impressive and she carries a bag full of charm. I’m looking forward to meeting her again.

Black Kale (Nero Di Toscana) this is probably the most loved brassica I grow this days. And I always let it flower the second year, and you can see why.
Mind you, it grew all last year and even in winter I was picking leaves. It wasn’t bothered about cold, snow or strong winds.

Self seeded Foxglove. The best specimens grow from self seeding as its nature’s natural way of promoting the best environment and the strongest ones to survive.

Collecting the seeds of Foxgloves in late summer when the seed pods turn dark and you hear them rattling. Sprinkle on top of well moistened soul in a tray, water from underneath always, let light into the seeds, don’t cover with soil, just some fine sand or noting and cover with clear lid. It will grow and ready to plant out before winter.
It’s biennial, so it flowers on the second year.
Or leave it to just surprise you and self seed in random places, usually where soil is poor and its rich in gravel.

Let’s sow Dill. Dill is probably my favourite herb and wild flower , it’s tall, airy, delicious and the flowers are a magnet for pollinators. Seeds are great winter garden decoration and add interest. The hollow stalk are an insects breeding ground if you leave them@standing over winter.
Win-win.
