Energy infrastructure. Supporting the development of renewable energy generation in Scotland.

TGP Landscape Architects are delighted that Trio Power Ltd’s* 39MW Binn Solar & 6MW BESS Farm near Glenfarg has secured unanimous approval from Perth and Kinross Council

Appointed by SLR, TGP supported the planning application, providing Landscape Planning services in appraisal and landscape mitigation proposals.

TGP’s Principal Landscape Architect, Chris Lockett states, “This is a very rewarding approval for the client and consultant team. The Binn solar and BESS site illustrates the importance of correct siting and design, together with carefully prepared assessment and stakeholder collaboration. While this is an evolved and changing landscape, it is deeply rooted in its environmental and cultural heritage.”

By transforming this site positively for renewable energy generation and storage, TGP’s considered and sensitive landscape mitigation proposals incorporate visual screening and significant biodiversity enhancements, coordinated with SLR’s own ecological team.

The development will connect into the existing substation at Abernethy.

TGP is delighted to announce that Challoch Solar Farm, near Newton Stewart, has recently had Planning Approval consented for REG Power, Groupotec.

The Solar Farm will have a capacity of up to 20MW of renewable energy and a 6MW Battery Energy Storage System.

TGP attended public consultation events and prepared the LVA for the site. The visualisations show the effect of proposed planting to mitigate the impact of the panels in the landscape context.

TGP were delighted to support two fantastic community consultation events at No. 22 Ladylane, Paisley.

Working with Paisley West & Central Community Council, we developed a series of sketch design options to share with the local community across a lively two-day event.

Currently underused, the gap site has huge potential to become a vibrant community hub for local residents, students and the neighbouring church.

The new designs featured raised beds, seating areas, play spaces, wildlife habitats, public art, a seed and book library, pollinator-friendly planting and upgraded footways to create a safer, more accessible environment for everyone.

It was brilliant to see such an enthusiastic response from the community, and we’re excited to see the designs continue to evolve as the project moves towards securing funding and becoming a reality.

Energy infrastructure. Supporting the transition of the National Grid for renewable energy generation and storage.

TGP Landscape Architectsare delighted to share the approval of Statkraft’s Greener Grid Park near Sandwich, Kent. A development comprising of grid balancing equipment and associated infrastructure, the Site is located in an industrial parcel to the south of Richborough Energy Park, adjacent to the sensitive River Stour at Port Richborough.

As part of a multi-disciplinary team coordinated by DWD Ltd, TGP supported the application for the newly consented energy infrastructure with a detailed Landscape Report and Landscape Mitigation Plan, prepared in collaboration with the project Ecologist to ensure riverbank disturbance was minimised and appropriately reinstated with development Biodiversity Net Gains.

TGP was commissioned by the Paisley West and Central Community Council to create a vision for transforming the grassy gap site at 22 Lady Lane into a vibrant community space that celebrates diversity, nature, and local pride.

The site is within a mainly residential area with some established businesses and community facilities. The area is on the edge of the town centre and benefits from proximity to shops, public transport, a library, museum and other town centre facilities.

TGP will present two design proposals at the public consultation, which capture the groups desire to see the potential of the site maximised. The designs will include seating, footpaths, lighting, community space, biodiversity enhancement through planting, bird boxes and bug hotels, a seed and book library, raised beds, informal play areas and public art installations.

The successful delivery of the project will not only enhance the area and provide an attractive, safe community space but will help foster confidence, pride and engage the wider community in improving quality of life and help make Paisley West End a better place.

TGP was delighted to have Ruth Ferguson, a 3rd-year Landscape Architecture student at Edinburgh University, join us as an intern this spring.

While academic study is essential, a professional office environment reveals the true variety of the discipline. During her time with us, Ruth moved beyond the classroom to engage with:
- Design development: From initial sketches to technical detail design.
- Planning and strategy: Navigating the complexities of live projects.
- Site visits: Exploring community gardens and historic gap sites.

Bridging the gap between the studio and the site is a vital step for any aspiring designer. We thoroughly enjoyed having Ruth's perspective in the office and wish her the best as she continues her studies.

We’re pleased to see progress on the proposed mixed-use development at Ingram Street, Glasgow, following the recent site purchase announcement.

The scheme will bring 109 new low-carbon homes alongside around 10,000 sq ft of ground-floor commercial space to the heart of the city centre, helping to support the continued regeneration of Merchant City. Construction is expected to begin later this year, with completion targeted for 2028.

TGP are delighted to announce that Wheatley Homes South have been granted Planning Permission for nearly 300 new homes at Catherinefield Farm on the outskirts of Dumfries. The development features a Livingwell Block providing 41 flats for people aged 55 and over.

The landscape treatment links the rural setting to the housing with robust planting, whilst protecting the environmentally sensitive Catherinefield Moss Local Wildlife Site.

An Active Travel cycle routes link the development to Locharbriggs, whilst local play areas and seating will encourage residents to enjoy the outdoors and create a sense of community.

TGP works closely with Baker Hicks and provided landscape design support for the new SSEN energy offices and coordination building in Perth.

The Tay House site will be developed into a complex that provides monitoring and management offices, along with a secure car park in landscaped setting. Whilst Tay House is in a small business park, it is surrounded on two sides by residential properties.

The landscape treatment will serve to screen the development, whilst also enhancing the security measures required for this development providing breakout seating areas and enhanced biodiversity.
