🍺 Europe's oldest restaurant has been open since 1273.
It is called Piwnica Świdnicka — the Świdnicka Cellar — and it sits in the Gothic brick vaults beneath the Old Town Hall in Wrocław, Poland.
It has been serving guests for over 750 years. Through the Black Death. Through the Thirty Years' War. Through the Napoleonic Wars. Through two World Wars, Soviet occupation, and the fall of communism.
Kings dined there. Poets drank there. Soldiers passed through. Empires rose and fell above it. The cellar stayed open.
The United States did not exist yet when Piwnica Świdnicka served its first meal. The Magna Carta had been signed just 58 years earlier.
Poland did not just survive history. It kept the lights on through all of it.
