A leaking waste pipe under a sink doesn't sound like much. Until the water gets under the floor.

On this one, the leak had been quietly soaking the chipboard beneath the flooring, including under the cold room.

Left alone, a simple maintenance task can turn into a much bigger job and it ends up costing 10 times more to fix and repair than just being proactive on your maintenance.

On this one we had to:

Strip out the sinks
Stripped down the cold room to get access
Cut out the water-damaged chipboard
Re-laid new chipboard
Fitted new Altro safety flooring, welded at the joints so water can't get down through it again
Then re-fitting the sinks and another location.

The client made the most of the downtime and had us extend the cold room while we were in, so they came out of it with more storage than they started with.

Start to finish, we turned it round in under 24 hours. No closure was required and no half-fix.

If something's gone wrong on your site and you need it sorted fast and sorted right, get in touch.

Here’s a shop front we rebuilt over in Glasgow, new timber shopfront, and signage.

We could have done this in plywood or marine ply like most would.

But we used Tricoya MDF instead, and it’s what we’ll always point a client towards for anything going outside.

Tricoya is guaranteed anywhere from 25 to 50 years depending on how it’s used. It costs a bit more up front. But in all the years we’ve used it, we’ve never had a single callback.

Standard / marine plywood outside is a different story. We’ve lost count of the amount of jobs we get called out to fix just because someone tried to save a few quid on a cheaper boards

If you are stripping out and refitting an exterior, do it once and do it right. Cheaper up front always isn’t cheaper in the long run.

Build. Fit Out. Maintain.

We built this food stall for a client running outdoor food events.

The brief was simple: it had to come apart and go back together on site. So we made every part easy to transport, quick to set up, and solid once it’s standing. It flat packs down too, so it’s easy to store when it’s not in use.

Move it to one event, set it up, break it down, store it away. Ready to go again next time.

If you need something done and you’re not sure whether it’s something we cover, get in touch for honest advice.

Just wrapped up a job at a school in Loch Leven.

The old shutters and framework weren't up to the fire rating needed, so they had to come out.

We teamed up with EAS (Entrance Access Solutions) to strip it all back and re-frame the opening for the new shutter.

Rock wool insulated the whole frame, double sheeted with fireline board, fire taped, then over clad in MDF and painted up to give it a proper finish.

Mopped down and ready for the kids coming back before anyone noticed we'd been there.

Before and after pics below.

If you've got a school, office or commercial unit that needs fire rated work done properly, give us a message.

We’re looking for a self-employed CIS joiner, or a small joinery squad wanting to infill their diary, to help us at SWB Projects.

We do high-end bespoke domestic work and commercial fit-outs across Glasgow and the Central Belt.

Because of the standard we work to, we need somebody who can actually do the job. First and second fix, dry lining, hanging doors, fitting bespoke counters etc

We run a small, tight squad. Talk a good game but can’t back it up and you’ll get found out on day one. We want someone reliable who works off their own back. And somebody who can work as part of a team and by themselves

What you bring:

Your own basic toolkit and transport
Your own public liability insurance CSCS card (preferred, not essential)

Experience helps, but if you’ve got the right attitude and get on with the boys, we’ll train you up on the rest. The right fit matters more to us than a CV full of jobs.

No stiff office interviews either. It’s a two-week working trial on site. You see if you like the standard, we see if you can graft. Everyone’s happy, we sit down and sort a proper rates etc.

Whether you want steady ongoing work or just to plug a few gaps, drop us a DM or send your CV over and we’ll take it from there.

Honestly, most hygiene cladding just gets glued up fast with a gun adhesive. It's quick, it's cheap, and it’s practically guaranteed to start lifting at some point especially anywhere near a heat source.

We heat and bend the sheets around every corner ourselves (thermoforming) so there's absolutely no joint where the wall turns.

Then it goes up with a proper two-part adhesive. I guarantee that panel is not coming off that wall again.

It costs a bit more than the quick way, but you get a kitchen that actually lasts, instead of spending dead money to replace it all again in two years' time!

If you need a commercial kitchen or hygiene area sorted properly, just give us a message.

Out first thing this morning to help a client upgrade one of their existing stores!

They wanted to bring in some updated units and appliances from another location to refresh the space. The only catch? The existing stainless steel table from the other unit was too big for the new layout.
Instead of dealing with the delays of ordering new, we handled the modifications right there on site:

Cut the stainless steel table down to perfectly fit this new layout

Fabricated and fitted brand-new custom end plates for a seamless finish
Repositioned and securely mounted the computer screens
Left the area spotless and 100% ready for trading

The best part? No downtime for the client. The doors opened as normal, just with a better setup inside. That’s the kind of seamless upgrade we love delivering.

If you have a commercial space that needs a refit, an upgrade, or some custom fabrication to make things work perfectly, we can help you get it sorted without the stress.

Just now we are in the middle of a big one in the city centre.

A student accommodation block. We have been brought in to change out nearly three hundred locks across the building. Eight floors including the basement, all live rooms with students still in them, so we are working floor by floor, cleaning up as we go and making sure everything is done safely before we move on.

The basement is done. Ground floor done. First and second floor done. We are just moving up to the third floor now.

It sounds straightforward enough but when rooms are occupied you have to be organised about it. You cannot just crack on and leave a mess behind you. Every door, room and floor gets left tidy before we go to the next one.

We are looking to have the whole thing wrapped up within the next week or two.

Still a good few floors to go but we are making steady progress.

This is the kind of job that does not always get talked about but it is a big part of what we do. Commercial maintenance work, fit out, joinery.

If you need a hand with something similar get in touch.

Getting quotes for a fit-out or renovation?

Three quotes usually means three completely different prices.

More and more people seem to go with the cheapest without asking the right questions.

We see the same problem all the time. A lot of quotes aren't based on the same or a full spec, so contractors aren't actually pricing the same job.

One contractor allows for proper commercial grade finishes and full M&E design and fit. Another prices domestic flooring and the cheapest ironmongery just to keep the bottom line down.

Then the job starts and suddenly you get hit with extras for things that should have been dealt with from day one.

"That wasn't included."
"We assumed that was supplied/ done by others."

That is exactly how jobs run away from people in time and cost!

At SWB we always try to cost work properly from the start.

Unless there is a genuine unforeseen issue we couldn't pick up during a site visit, we give you a realistic price.

Before you compare quotes, don't just look at the total. Make sure you have a proper specification.

A clear scope means every quote is like for like and it protects you from hidden costs once the work starts.

If you don't have a detailed spec yet, ask your contractor to help you write one. That is exactly what we do to make sure there are no surprises.

Planning a project?

We are happy to talk it through.
