I recommend AICO detection battery or mains to provide a system that complies and does not give false alarms. Google there reviews.
They are market leaders ,used by most large associations as they don't want maintenance issues, a bit more expensive to buy but reliable.
I will fit any alarms that are supplied by client and meet the BS5839 part 6, but will only supply AICO products.
If you've ever had a smoke alarm going into fault you will know it happens mostly at night as the batteries are cold and start to struggle. You will know how annoying it is, compounded by the amount of alarms now in a home, this will happen more than ever.
Mostly this happens with cheaper sealed batteries and will be more common as most detectors now require two sealed batteries , one for the radio frequency module that allows it to talk to the others and the other for the alarm itself. Fit a system that last the life of detectors. I have been fitting alarms as part of building regs and refurbishment for years and the cheap brands are cheap for a reason.
The cost to fit is the same whatever make.
Hope that answers some questions.
