Really who thought leaving the pullcord above the new ceiling was a good idea? Surprised the cord never snapped.

Called out to a bleeping noise, asked if lady had smoke detectors she said they were removed when she got ceiling lowered for downlights and never got round to replacing them.
Sadly they were left in place above the false ceiling Had to try to disable a battery detector through a downlight hole. 😕 😔

Boiler a couple of years old and various repairs that weren't needed by others ( hundreds of pounds ) until I found a really high resistance reading on the incoming cable. It was joined by original boiler installer and burning away in the ladies attic with insulation and no joint box. Happy to have resolved this.

With all the conflicting information regarding alarms SELECT have produced this short clip to raise awareness. My website has lots of frequently asked questions and advice, anything else just get in contact from battery to mains or hybrid conversions, there will be a solution out there to comply with the new tolerable standard. Please share and like, Thanks

Please be aware of cheap non compliant smoke detectors being sold. Trading Standards have already contacted all registered trades people within the area to alert them and hopefully find where these items are coming from.

Since the change in standard has been mentioned many companies have set up with little or no knowledge so be careful where advice is coming from.

Also please be aware of flyers / adverts through your door suggesting you call fake companies with premium rate numbers where there only intention is to make money from the call.

I recommend AICO detection battery or mains to provide a system that complies and does not give false alarms. Google there reviews.

They are market leaders ,used by most large associations as they don't want maintenance issues, a bit more expensive to buy but reliable.

I will fit any alarms that are supplied by client and meet the BS5839 part 6, but will only supply AICO products.

If you've ever had a smoke alarm going into fault you will know it happens mostly at night as the batteries are cold and start to struggle. You will know how annoying it is, compounded by the amount of alarms now in a home, this will happen more than ever.

Mostly this happens with cheaper sealed batteries and will be more common as most detectors now require two sealed batteries , one for the radio frequency module that allows it to talk to the others and the other for the alarm itself. Fit a system that last the life of detectors. I have been fitting alarms as part of building regs and refurbishment for years and the cheap brands are cheap for a reason.

The cost to fit is the same whatever make.

Hope that answers some questions.
