Today was Billingshurst gardening- I knew I had to kit myself out prior which is what I did do [after yesterday's getting caught in massive thunder storm]

Absolutely mudfest [clay soil]...hospitality πŸ’― % with soup and even when the dog's ate my donuts from the paper bag [🀣🐾], lol...I was given a beautiful coffee and peanut butter sarnie.

I love coming here and seeing everyone; what a difference from 3 weeks ago in shorts and very very hot.

Blinking Nora....with my birthday money from a couple of gardening clients, I thought it wise to kit myself out for the rain 🌧 and as I was in Billingshurst today, it was rude not to pop into Mole Valley [Scatts].

I've always for ages wanted these trousers so bought 2 x pairs. Absolute game changer beyond all measures..

My jeans & waterproof trousers lasted 1.5hours & these lasted the remainder time.

Why I've never bought them before is beyond me πŸ€”πŸ€£

4 x pairs of gloves

1 x L Men's Regatta Isorex 15000 waterproof [100%] - just worn it for 5 hours at Billingshurst [tad muddy but I'm totally dry.

So I am equipped and thank you to my gardening clients' birthday wishes & gifts.

Yesterday afternoon's session of a good sweep up tidy & planting more colour. It's been a labour of love to transform 2 x courtyards into lush & colour..I will miss this oasis of peace when the property is sold.
I've worked with my client's since 2017 on their bigger property. I moved with them to Milford.

Transforming 2 x dark dingy courtyards into photography below.

Ive been back on the gardening tools πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ since Saturday 22nd August and loving the cool air in mornings. Definitely turning isn't it? I can feel the change.

Update on workhorse....hopefully filling it up at Β£1.98per E10 litre at Shell garage & a 400ml of E5 STP fuel cleaner will set it right this morning. Holding off the starter motor as probably not that.
I effing pray its not fuel pump πŸ€”πŸ€ž

I've 2 gardens tomorrow and 1 x garden on Wednesday PM and busy busy thereon. I know it's scheduled to rain lol but light rain 🌧 I can cope.

I will be advertising for more gardening work as loosing 3 gardens to house sale though I'd be happy to stay on but it never works that way.

One day at a time.

I read that Judy Dench has Carpe Diem tattooed on her wrist. I'm also reading am article on perennials for clay soil for forthcoming heatwaves and on chapter 2 of Herbal Diploma with Centre of Excellence.

My brain has started twitching for learning and long may that continue.

Watch this space. πŸ™πŸŒΎπŸŒ΄

Picked from HQGH this late August sunny evening, the only colour available. Building works, no water and all in all August is definitely Autumn up there. No matter, lots to do, plan for next year, dig that soil over & introduce planting that loves heat 2026 to 2027. Currently the wisteria are being moved; not by me oh no way. I've advised it will be an arduous task that may fail as they hate being moved. He is happy either way. Such a shame but the conservatory is being knocked down.

First the pond addressed it this afternoon and will continue tomorrow early evening. I work weekends up there to avoid builders, lack of parking & safety as a motley crew. This afternoon I took the chance & arrived at 4pm - 6pm before the horseflies linger & Mr Angry Bee appears.

I picked these because those roses have lasted without water and if I can supply water to them, I've supplied them with water at home πŸ™πŸŒΎπŸŒ΄

The hardest part of working in a heatwave, is entering a garden so full of perennials and they are struggling to survive. I read that if you cut back the 'struggling that should be alive' then one makes more damage than good.

So this morning it's been brambles, alkanet, very light pruning, sweeping & a tidy. After being stung very badly by a bee twice last August, I am leaving the lavender still in flower to end of August into September- because I'm not getting stung and the butterflies n bees are loving it so much.....and really there is nothing else. The Japanese Anemones are so struggling and asters are not looking happy.

The yucca stands proud.

One final sweep and I'm off with 3hours completed. πŸ™πŸŒΎπŸŒ΄β˜€οΈ

I've worked 2 x gardens today 8am to 11am then noon to 3pm. Afternoon spent at my Thursley garden potting up 5 x Hydrangeas that just haven't been well of late down on lower border since hosepipe ban! So the client is keeping a check on those now. Lots of pots, soil making good, getting totally dirt face, arms and knees ❀️ everywhere love it. Even better when you rock up at petrol ⛽️ station & a quick nip into shop for food.....love my work especially under the huge tree & shade.

I am proud of myself today.

Keep reminding me that it will change, and will be wet, cold, freezing, windy & Mrs 5 Layers. Just enjoying each day wearing t-shirt & work shorts. πŸ™πŸŒΎπŸŒ΄

Bought from Van Arnham Nursery this fine morn in memory of my dear gardening client Linda, who passed from pancreatic cancer in June 2026. She loved her garden. She leaves R, who knows nothing about gardening and her wishes were for me to continue, where she'd be looking down from above.

Gaura "Whirling πŸ¦‹ Butterflies" seemed the perfect way to remember her πŸ™πŸŒΎπŸŒ΄
