The Importance of Maintaining your Wooden Doors:
Like most materials, wood is susceptible to the changing climate. Timber reacts to fluctuations in temperature and moisture; wood can shrink and expand depending on the weather. Excess moisture can cause changes in the wood that could warp or otherwise damage it. Sunlight can fade the colour out of doors.
Following installation, there is a need to maintain your wooden doors to keep them looking perfect and functional.
Here are some tips to help look after your wooden doors:
▪️ Vanish, oil or paint your door straight away (doors must be sealed, knotted, primed or lacquered as soon as possible after installation & must be applied to all six surfaces, front/back face & all four edges)
▫️ Clean your wooden doors with warm soapy water, to remove debris build-up
▪️ Identify water penetration/damage as early as possible & treat it accordingly
▫️ Oil hinges & latches (once a month), to maintain functionality & avoid unnecessary damage to the door
▪️ Avoid slamming or banging your door to minimise damage, splitting or cracking of the wood
Remember- Wood is a natural product, minor swelling or shrinking is not a defect but a normal characteristic of the material. Adherence to the above tips will help minimise these effects.
