I'll be finishing off a media wall today, then I'm off to do something far more important.

This afternoon I'll be making my 23rd blood donation.

I've been doing it for years. It's one hour every few months to potentially save a life.

People always say things like, "Good for you, I've never got round to it..." so here's a little nudge!

** System Spotlight – Grid Ceilings **

Most people don't pay much attention to the ceilings when they're out and about.

Even fewer realise just how many different suspended ceiling systems are out there.

White tiles. White grid. That's it... right?

Well, generally, yes. But that's far from the full story.

There are ceiling systems designed specifically for schools, hospitals, offices, shops and industrial units. Some are all about easy access to services, others focus on acoustics, hygiene, fire performance or simply aesthetics.

The right choice depends on what the space needs to do.

The good news is, you don't need to know the difference between a mineral fibre tile and a metal pan ceiling. That's our job.

We've given the Spiral website a bit of a refresh. 🌀

We've added a few more projects, updated some of the content and generally tried to make it a better reflection of who we are and the sort of work we do.

Unfortunately, there was no Friday fry up for me today, just some toast and a cuppa in front of the laptop.

Luckily, I keep a few in reserve!

This beauty is the large breakfast from the Townfield cafe and coffee shop.

It comes with everything you need on a good brekkie; 2 sausages, 2 bacon, 2 eggs, 2 black pudding, 2 hash browns, mushrooms, beans, tinned tomatoes, 2 toast, a pot of tea, and a glass of juice.

All perfectly cooked and at £10.50 I'd say it's a bit of a bargain!
Certainly beats my toast & tea.

Another 10/10. 👌

Today I swapped my tool belt for a tablet and notebook.

I was in Manchester city centre this afternoon for a site visit before dotting the i's, crossing the t's, and doing a final crunch of the numbers on a quote for a high-spec shop fit project.

There's a lot of work that goes into a job like this before anyone even thinks about getting their tools out. Site meetings, checking drawings, measuring up, working out quantities, putting schedules together and trying to spot any potential issues before they become actual issues.

It's all part of the job, and getting these details right at the start gives the project the best chance of running smoothly from day one.

Fingers crossed this one comes off. 🤞

One of the things I enjoy most about working in construction is the people you meet along the way.

This week's shout-out goes to the team at Construct & Repair Ltd.

I've had the pleasure of working alongside these guys on a couple of projects over the years, and they're exactly the sort of company you want to be dealing with; professional, organised and committed to delivering a quality job.

As subcontractors, we get to see how different companies operate behind the scenes, and Construct & Repair have always impressed me with their approach. They run a tidy site, communicate well, treat people properly and genuinely care about the end result.

Just as importantly for me, they're a great bunch to work with. Construction can be hard work at times, but having good people around you makes all the difference, and obviously having a laugh along the way always helps!

Today's Friday fry up review isn't actually from me.

I was working in West Kirby again today, 2 doors down from Dempsey's, so Paul (the peninsula's premier plumber!) and I went there for the excellent Builders Breakfast (now available with tinned tomatoes! 👌).

Meanwhile, my better half decided to "treat" herself while running some errands.

Here we have "The Clatterbridge Catastrophe".

She didn't see a catapult, but I have to assume that was the chosen method of getting the food from pan to plate.

Presentation apparently isn't high on the list of priorities, but all the necessary brekkie items were available, and it tasted "ok" apparently, so it gets a generous 5/10.

Over the years I've had the pleasure of working with some fantastic clients, contractors, suppliers and fellow tradespeople.
