Maintaining a large private estate garden is never just about upkeep — it’s about stewardship, continuity, and respecting the legacy of the landscape.

We’re proud to provide year-round grounds and garden maintenance for a substantial countryside estate near Godalming. Spanning several hectares, this is not only a complex and evolving landscape, but one with real historical significance.

The garden was originally designed by Gertrude Jekyll, one of the most influential figures in British garden design. While the estate has naturally evolved over the decades, elements of her vision still resonate today — particularly in the thoughtful use of colour, planting combinations, and the subtle transitions between spaces.

Our role is to manage and maintain the estate with a high level of horticultural precision, ensuring that:• Lawns are kept in optimal condition through structured seasonal care• Borders and planting schemes are maintained with sensitivity to their original character• Trees, hedges, and structural elements are carefully managed• The garden continues to feel cohesive, balanced, and true to its heritage

Working on a site like this requires more than routine maintenance — it demands an understanding of landscape history, plant behaviour, and long-term garden development.

Every visit is part of preserving something bigger than a garden.

We are delighted to announce that we have recently taken over the comprehensive grounds and garden maintenance and management of another large private estate in Surrey.

It is a privilege to be entrusted with the care of such an important and substantial property. Estates of this scale demand a high level of professionalism, horticultural knowledge and meticulous attention to detail, and we are proud to bring our expertise to the ongoing stewardship of this exceptional landscape.

Our role will encompass the full care and management of the grounds and gardens, maintaining the estate to an exacting standard throughout the year. From formal and informal garden areas to lawns, hedging, borders, pruning, planting and seasonal landscape maintenance, every element will be managed with a focus on quality, presentation and long-term development.

We are proud to support private estate owners across Surrey with dependable, knowledgeable and carefully delivered grounds and garden management, and we look forward to seeing this latest property thrive under our care.

Transforming boundaries on a country estate 🌿

Before any planting could begin, this project required a full strip-back and reinstatement of the landscape to create the right conditions for long-term success.

The first stage involved clearing out dense, scruffy vegetation that had taken over the boundary line. This not only improved access but allowed us to properly assess and re-establish the original structure of the land.

A key feature of the project was the reconstruction of the boundary ditch. Over time, it had become degraded and ineffective, so we carefully re-formed it to restore both its visual definition and practical drainage function. The excavated material was then used to rebuild and shape the bank above, creating a natural and elevated planting line.

Once the groundwork was complete, we moved on to planting the new hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) hedge along the top of the bank. This species is ideal for estate boundaries offering a classic, formal appearance while being hardy, tolerant, and excellent for year-round screening.

Each plant was set out with precision and planted using high-quality BS-certified shrub and tree compost to give strong establishment conditions from day one. The improved soil structure and nutrient content will support healthy root development and long-term growth.

This is a great example of how proper groundwork and preparation are just as important as the planting itself. A well-installed hedge like this will mature into a robust, elegant boundary feature for years to come.

Crown Reduction – Copper Beech 🌳

Today we carried out a 25% crown reduction on this mature copper beech, carefully balancing tree health, structure, and aesthetics.

Crown reduction is a precise arboricultural operation, not simply cutting back branches, but selectively reducing the height and spread of the canopy while maintaining the tree’s natural shape. In this case, reducing the crown by approximately 25% has helped to:

• Alleviate mechanical stress on the limb structure
• Improve light pe*******on to the surrounding garden
• Reduce wind resistance, lowering the risk of storm damage
• Maintain a strong, well-balanced framework for future growth

All cuts were made back to appropriate growth points, ensuring the tree can respond well and continue to thrive. With species like copper beech, maintaining form is especially important, as poor pruning can quickly lead to an unnatural appearance or excessive regrowth.

The result is a more compact, stable canopy that still retains the tree’s character and presence within the landscape.

If you have a mature tree that’s outgrowing its space or showing signs of structural stress, professional crown reduction can be an effective long-term solution.

We’re excited to announce the start of a brand new garden under our full, year-round weekly maintenance programme 🌿

This is exactly what consistent, professional care is all about — not just keeping a garden tidy, but actively managing and improving it week by week, season by season.

Our comprehensive maintenance service includes:

• Lawn care: mowing, edging, scarification, aeration, overseeding, seasonal fertilisation, and weed/moss control
• Hedge cutting and shaping to maintain structure and density
• Shrub and plant pruning, tailored to species and season
• Flower bed maintenance: weeding, mulching, soil improvement, and replanting where needed
• Plant health monitoring and treatment
• Leaf clearance and seasonal tidy-ups
• Irrigation checks and watering management (where applicable)
• Hard surface maintenance: paths, patios, and borders kept clean and defined
• Green waste removal and responsible disposal

With weekly visits all year round, we ensure the garden continues to develop, mature, and look its best in every season — not just in summer.

Looking forward to transforming this space over the coming months.
