For eligible households in England and Wales currently heating their home with oil, that level of support could now be available through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.

The grant for heat pumps has increased from £7,500 to £9,000, helping to make the switch from heating oil to a cleaner, more future-ready heating solution more affordable.

For many homeowners, upfront cost has been one of the biggest barriers to upgrading, but this extra support could help reduce that hurdle while offering greater protection from unpredictable oil prices.

As an experienced heat pump installer based in the Scottish Highlands, Stephen Borthwick, owner of SA Borthwick Ltd, knows how some units can behave in extremely cold conditions.

From his experience, heat pumps often enter defrost or condensate modes when temperatures drop to around -10°C to -11°C. And that’s why he was pleasantly surprised by the performance of our PEM750 air source heat pump, which continued to operate effectively even in temperatures as low as -14°C.
