Todays bee removal was from a flat roof in St Ives. Usually with flat roofs we access from above but this had wood, felt, concrete tiles and decking so we opted for a side entry... This colony has swarmed in the last few days and the new queen has not yet started laying. This complicates the removal a little and so we have no mid-job pics today!

One of our recent jobs was a pine which had fallen across several graves, breaking one headstone and resting on others. The tree was carefully removed, piece by piece, without causing any further damage. Access to the tree was very difficult on this one. Almost nothing could fall straight down, there was very little height to rig anything and very limited options for machine access. In the end it came down to slowly slowly....

VOTE BEES! Here's the Bank of England's survey to decide which animals will feature on new £10 notes - buff-tailed bumblebee has made the shortlist but it's down to the public....

The Buff-tailed bumblebee has made the shortlist to feature on the new banknotes – and you can help make it happen! 🐝💵

Why this “noteworthy” bumblebee deserves your vote:

🍅 Bumblebees are pollinator powerhouses. They are essential for pollinating many of our wildflowers and crops, including lots of fruits and vegetables.

🌾 Pollinators do an astonishing amount of work for free. Replacing their role in farming with hand pollination would cost roughly £1.8 billion. Without bumblebees, many of the foods we eat would become harder to grow and more expensive to buy.

💵 Giving the Buff-tailed bumblebee a place on the new Bank of England notes would shine a light on why bumblebees need protecting. Across the UK, bumblebee populations have plummeted over time, with two species already lost in the last 100 years, and many others in serious decline today.

This is your chance to keep bumblebees in people’s minds … and wallets!

This is a post to say thanks to all of our followers and recommenders! Almost all of the calls that I've taken today have mentioned that somebody has recommended us to the caller - this means a lot to us! Hopefully it means that we're doing things the right way but we wouldn't be where we are without people telling others about us so please, keep spreading the word and - once again - thankyou to all of you...

Some of what we've been up to over the last week. A couple of different bee removals, one from a chimney in Carbis Bay, one from a roof and a dovecote in St Erth, also a swarm. Several big macrocarpas half dismantled, ready for the rest to be done next week. Have a feeling that this weekend will be a swarmy one!
