Gifford Horticultural Society & show

Gifford Horticultural Society & show Come and join our society. You don't have to live in Gifford to join! We have activities to suit all ages and all levels of gardening experience.

Activities include Talks related to gardening and horticulture, Plant Sales, our annual Outings programme, member’s lunch, and our two-day Flower Show. The show is one of the oldest and largest two-day tented village shows in Scotland, and is not confined to flowers and vegetables; there are also sections for handicrafts, baking, honey and a special section for children. The Society was formed in

1848, to “encourage gardening through competition.” This was expanded, first in 1937 to “encourage horticulture in all its branches” then in 1990 to “advance gardening and horticulture for the public benefit…[and] improve the environmental fabric of the Village and its neighbourhood.”

Now in the 21st century we welcome new members who share our love of plants and gardens, whether edible or just beautiful. You can join the society via a membership form on our website or by attending one of our talks.

Kevock Bank Garden visit- 6th May.

A reminder that next Wednesday evening we are having a trip to David & Stella Rankin’s garden at Lasswade. We will meet outside Gifford Village and plan to leave at 6:00. If preferred, members can make their own way to the garden- contact Roger for directions. We will aim to be at the garden for 6:30pm.

This wonderful hillside garden has magnificent views over the North Esk Valley and was created by the multi-Chelsea award winning duo who previously owned Kevock Gardens nursery.

The steep slope has sitting places for those not wanting to venture down the hillside.
The hillside creates a range of different habitats with a wide diversity of plants, ranging from those that love hot, sunny conditions to those that prefer the cool, damp places near the pond and woodland glades. Mature specimen trees, rhododendrons, azaleas and unusual shrubs are underplanted with many rare woodland plants. Lawns have been relaid, surrounding borders have been planted, and there is a new rock garden. Kevock Garden has featured in many magazine articles and gardening programmes. We look forward to seeing members and friends on the 6th.

Join us for our annual Plant Sale next month🌻

Has the current sunshine has got you out gardening? Please consider planting up anything you are dividing, or no longer want, to donate to us. We love the plants that our members and friends give us to sell 🌸

Seedlings or young plants are very welcome if you find that you have extras to spare 🌱

If you can pop a label naming the variety into the pots, that is really helpful for the volunteers on the stalls and for buyers🪴

Donations can be dropped off after 08.30 on the day or contact us to drop off beforehand-details below 🌿

As well as donated plants, there will be bedding plants grown by Redhouse Nurseries & Tea Room available 🌼

On the day, sales start at 09.30. No pre-sales or reservations! It’s usually busy from the start so good to get down on time for the best choice 🌺

And, Gifford Playgroup are back with their very popular Cake Stall 🧁🧁🧁
