1s Report
In an electrifying encounter between Hailsham and East Dean, spectators at the local cricket ground were treated to an intense and action-packed match. Both teams showed determination and skill, but it was Hailsham who ultimately emerged victorious with a convincing win.
Hailsham elected to bat first, setting a challenging total of 273 runs for East Dean to chase. The innings was spearheaded by a masterful performance from Jason Tibble, who scored a brilliant 64 off 63 balls. Tibble's innings was marked by a flurry of boundaries, as he hammered 6 fours and 2 sixes, maintaining a strike rate of 101.59. Matt Maritz and Ciaran Peacock provided solid support at the top of the order. Maritz's knock of 28 was curtailed by a sharp return catch by Joshua Varney, while Peacock's fluent 40 anchored the innings. Despite losing quick wickets in the middle overs, Hailsham found stability through Sully Hallett and James Bellett, who added crucial runs towards the end. Hallett remained unbeaten on 39, while Bellett's aggressive 44 not out from 39 deliveries ensured Hailsham reached a competitive total. East Dean's bowlers worked tirelessly, with Declan Skyrme, Ross Bird, and Joshua Varney each claiming two wickets. However, their efforts were not enough to stem the flow of runs as Hailsham's batting depth shone through.
Chasing 274, East Dean needed a strong start but faced immediate challenges. Hollie Young delivered an impressive spell, claiming three key wickets and putting East Dean under pressure early in their innings. Young's dismissal of both openers, Oly Ody (40) and Ross Bird (21), derailed East Dean's chase before it could gain momentum. Amidst the struggle, Ashley Deller-Merricks provided a glimmer of hope with a valiant knock of 61 not out. His innings was a lone hand of resistance as he struck 9 boundaries, countering Hailsham’s bowling attack. However, with wickets falling at regular intervals, East Dean's chase was stifled. Diesel Hallett supported Hailsham’s cause with a clinical spell, taking 3 wickets for just 28 runs, while Will Royall chipped in with two crucial wickets. Despite Deller-Merricks' best efforts, East Dean fell short, managing 216 for 9 in their allotted 45 overs.
Hollie Young: 9-0-31-3
Diesel Hallett: 9-2-28-3
Ashley Deller-Merricks: 61* (57 balls)
Hailsham’s all-round performance, combining solid batting with effective bowling, secured them a 57-run victory over East Dean. The match was a testament to Hailsham's depth and resilience, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure and deliver when it mattered most. This win not only boosts Hailsham's standings in the league but also sets the stage for an exciting season ahead, leaving East Dean with plenty to ponder as they look to bounce back in their upcoming matches.
