A proper transformation on this driveway.

The existing surface had seen better days, so the team stripped everything back and carried out the groundwork and preparation needed to give the new driveway a solid foundation.

From excavation and preparing the sub-base, through to laying and finishing the new tarmac, the photos show just how much work goes into getting the finished result right.

Groundworks completed at a local rugby club.

Our team was brought in to prepare the area ready for their new dugout.

We excavated the existing surface, prepared and laid a new concrete base for the dugout, before reinstating the surrounding area with fresh tarmac to leave a clean, durable finish.

A relatively small job, but another great example of the variety of groundwork projects we undertake.

Built from the ground up.

Swipe to see the transformation ➡️

This wasn't just a new layer of tarmac. The existing road hadfailed, so we carried out a full excavation and reconstruction to create a road built to last.

The works included:
✔ Excavating the existing carriageway to approximately 600mm depth
✔ Removing and disposing of the failed sub-base
✔ Installing and compacting a brand-new stone sub-base
✔ Laying four layers of tarmac to create a durable, high-quality finish
✔ Completing the works in carefully planned sections to minimise disruption for local businesses and road users throughout the project

At Ben Thornber & Sons Ltd, we know that the strength of any road starts with what's beneath the surface. By rebuilding it properly from the ground up, we've delivered a long-lasting solution rather than just a temporary fix.
