Back Building for a Return Customer 🧱

We’re back on another project for a returning customer — always a pleasure to be trusted with more work.

The plan is to carefully retain as much of the existing walling stone as possible from the section that needs to come down, then complement it with reclaimed stone where needed.

As we rebuild, we’ll carefully blend the original and reclaimed stone together so the new wall looks natural and matches the existing character of the property.

The next project is this old boundary wall
a wall that has certainly done its job over the years, but has now reached the point where it simply can’t stand any longer.

A lot of the original Yorkshire stone has perished, along with the mortar bed joints. The cement that once bound everything together has been weathered away, leaving the wall with very little strength or stability.

It’s actually nice to see a wall like this that has stood for such a long time and done exactly what it was built to do. But even traditional stone walls don’t last forever.

The plan now is to carefully take it down, salvage as much of the original Yorkshire stone as possible and give the wall a new lease of life. 🧱

This is a simple example of the main areas we look at when a customer asks us to inspect a chimney stack.

• Leaks and signs of water ingress
• Structural movement or damage
• Loose or damaged masonry
• Cracked or damaged chimney pots
• Lead flashing and weathering details
• Damaged or deteriorated chimney flaunching
• Missing, loose or failing pointing
• The condition of the chimney stack and surrounding roof

A chimney is exposed to the elements all year round, and small defects can quickly develop into much bigger problems if they’re left unchecked.

we don’t just look at the obvious—we assess the chimney as a whole and identify areas that may require repair, maintenance or further investigation.

The weather is a little too hot to be working in today, so here’s a little peek at the other side of the house.

This area was completely overgrown when we started, with bushes and a couple of small trees needing to be removed before work could begin. It’s amazing how much difference a bit of hard work can make. The transformation is really starting to take shape, and we’re looking forward to showing you more progress as the project continues.

Our aim throughout this Yorkshire stone flagging project has been to retain as much of the original stone as possible, carefully lifting and relaying the existing flags to preserve the history and charm of the property. Where additional materials were required, we sourced reclaimed Yorkshire stone flags to blend seamlessly with the original paving.

Yorkshire stone flagging project.
Our aim has been to retain as much of the original York stone as possible, carefully lifting and relaying the existing flags to preserve the character and history of the property. Where additional materials were needed, we sourced reclaimed York stone flags to ensure they blended naturally with the original paving.

The result is a traditional stone surface that looks as though it has always been there, with the old and reclaimed materials working together perfectly. There is still a little more work to do, but the transformation so far has been well worth the effort.

To complete this section, we sourced additional reclaimed York stone flags to ensure a seamless match with the existing work.
