After a good nights sleep in Belford, they set off early. The way today joined the historic St Cuthberts path near Fenwick and St Cuthberts cave. From here, the route brought them to Holy Island sands and the Lindisfarne causeway. The island is cut off twice a day by the tide, pilgrims and this includes Mum and Dad make the 3 1/2 mile crossing on bare foot, following the vertical poles, indicating the safest place to cross. The crossing must only be attempted on a receding tide, however many cars still get stuck in the tidal water, attempting to cross outside of the safe times... Mum found accommodation for them, not camping as it is not allowed on the island, for TWO nights. Mum's highlights were seeing a seal, collecting St Cuthberts beads hidden in the sand on the beach and visiting Lindisfarne Castle, however Dad's was sleeping. The island is very different at night, when the tide is in and the daily tourists have gone, it's errialy quiet.

Update time

From Wall, Mum and Dad caught the 07:00 bus to Hexham to get supplies and two hours later, back to Wall, packed up the tent and continued along Hadrian's Wall to High Brunton, where they camped the night at a local farm. The following morning they passed Milecastle 26, before joining St Oswalds Way at Heavens fields. Here they visited the lovely Church and the field where the battle of Heavens field occurred. Mum and Dad walked late into the evening, on a beautiful day, through the little villages of Great Whittington, Wallington, Little and Great Bovington and finally to Kirk Whelpington. Here they found the best ever place to stay. The hosts were wonderful, providing the accommodation at a super low rate. ( They felt sorry for Mum.) They had dinner from a pizza van, that was visiting the village from Newcastle. Why I man.

After camping the night in Dufton. They crossed the desolate fells, the highest point on the Pennine Way, with a radar and weather station. At Greg's Hut they had a brief tea break, before they descended into the quiet village of Garrigill and finally over the fell, to the super market town of Alston. Here they wild camped at the bottom of the town. Mum and Dad awoke to rain and decided to go for tea and coffee at the nearby South Tyndale Railway Station. As it was lashing down, they took the decision to board the 10:30 miniature steam train to Slaggyford, arriving at 11:05. It was a leisurely 5 mile ride in small cosy carriages, run entirely by enthusiastic volunteers. From here they walked along the redundant railway line to Lambley, it was here that they camped the night in a truly wonderful campsite. More to follow folks!!!
