Who loves blackberries?? πŸ˜‹

The Wild berry season is one of the best times of the year for foraging. Blackberries are probs the most common and favourite to pick but there are many more fruits and berries that are ripening or ready for harvesting now, such as elderberries, rose hips, hawthorn berries (haws), sloes and sea buckthorn.

eating wild berries is the natural way to boost your winter immune system. High in vitamin c and packed full of antioxidants. πŸ«πŸ“πŸ‡πŸŽπŸ

Theres nothing better than getting your trusty hand shears out and doing some topiary. V satisfying. These leylandii cypress have been left to long and gone leggy, also there's lots of dead foliage in there too we have given them a good shake to get most of the dead out..

The best way to keep topiary compact and dense is to lightly trim every month or 6 weeks to 8 weeks all depends on the the weather and how fast things grow. Same goes for shrubs the more you trim them over the growing season the more compact and dense they look keeping them looking sharp on the eye.

Thats the meadow cut down. What we are going to do next is make lots of piles of grass and burn it when the conditions are safe to do so. This will clear some ground for wildflowers and reduce the amount of labour required to shift the grass cuttings..

To create a diverse meadow with lot of species of wildflower there's a lot more preparation required to change fertile soil to poor soil.. poor soil is wildflower haven.

This is overlooked. We all buy wildflower seed packs with big expectations. the packet doesn't explain what you actually need to do to make a meadow with many species to thrive for years.

The meadow will do well for 1 year , in year 2 the meadows end up as a daisy meadow mixed with grass, and the odd thistle ,nettle ,yarrow, burdock , buttercup, marrow, clover and knapweed..thats ok but not a proper meadow just like having a grass verge in your garden. .to do it right it takes years of graft.

Makes me wonder that the seed companies are making serious money off the back of the rewilding movement. And what a waste of seed πŸ€”

We know what to do.. give us a call if you need assistance on creating a species rich meadow

We specialise in fruit tree care. Its very important to know how fruit trees function to maximise production and taste so we can enjoy the fruits of our labour.

Apple trees are in the rose family aka Rosaceae.

Knowing the family of plants makes life easier. They can handle a hard prune in winter when dormant and will not die. they take 3 to 5 years to fruit again.
