WINNER! Small Project of the Year (Under £1m) ICE Robert Stephenson Awards 2026 🏆

We are incredibly to share that the West Park Flood Alleviation Scheme, delivered for Hartlepool Borough Council on behalf of the Environment Agency, has been recognised as Small Project of the Year (Under £1m) at the ICE Robert Stephenson Awards 2026.

Delivered in the heart of Hartlepool, this scheme has made a lasting impact, protecting 89 homes, strengthening local infrastructure and enhancing valued community spaces.

Through innovative engineering and collaborative problem-solving, the team overcame complex site constraints, introducing a creative “culvert-within-culvert” solution that maintained performance while avoiding major disruption.

🌱 Sustainability at its core: saving ~22,800 kg CO₂e through HVO fuel and low-impact construction methods

⚙️ Smarter engineering: redesigns that improved efficiency, enhanced future maintenance access and delivered cost savings.

🌳 Lasting social value: park improvements, better allotment access and restored heritage features

This project is a fantastic example of what can be achieved through collaboration, innovation and community focus, leaving a positive legacy that goes far beyond the engineering.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in delivering this award-winning project, an outstanding achievement! A special thank you to the site team for their dedication and hard work. This recognition is truly well deserved and reflects the passion, commitment and enthusiasm shown by the entire team throughout the project. 💙

Something we love to see, one big Seymour VHE site team! 💙💚

Earlier today, our supervisors and site managers delivered a powerful toolbox talk on Mental Health Awareness. These sessions are so important, they help equip our teams with the knowledge, tools and confidence to look after themselves and each other, both on and off site. Just as importantly, they remind everyone where to turn for support when it’s needed.

We could share the number of Mental Health First Aiders across our business or talk about our new mental health podcast, but what truly matters is this: as an industry, we all have a part to play in breaking down stigma, creating space for open, honest conversations about mental health and looking after each other.

If you or someone you know needs support, these incredible organisations are here to help:

🦺 The Lighthouse Construction Charity - www.lighthousecharity.org
🦺 Andy’s Man Club - www.andysmanclub.co.uk
🦺 Mind - www.mind.org.uk

Let’s keep the conversation going… not just this week, but every week. 💬

Just two weeks to go until the ICE North East Annual Dinner and Robert Stephenson Awards 2026! 💧🌍

We are incredibly to be shortlisted for the Small Project Award (under £1m) for our West Park Flood Alleviation Scheme, delivered on behalf of Hartlepool Borough Council for the Environment Agency.

The scheme protects 89 residential properties and showcases how targeted engineering and intelligent design can deliver climate resilience with a significantly reduced construction impact. By optimising and extending the life of existing assets, rather than undertaking carbon‑intensive reconstruction, the project reduced embodied carbon while strengthening long‑term flood resilience.

Innovative problem‑solving, including a culvert‑within‑culvert solution, avoided major demolition, reduced excavation and removed the need for road closures, delivering clear engineering, environmental and community benefits.

Low‑carbon construction practices were central to delivery, with HVO fuel, hybrid eco‑cabins and biodegradable hydraulic oils, alongside environmental enhancements that supported natural recovery and improved community spaces within Ward Jackson Park.

A fantastic example of collaboration, innovation and sustainability in action.

Best of luck to everyone shortlisted! 👏

Great to see Lauren Parsons, our Project Manager, and Chloe Gooding, our Marketing Lead, settling into their new roles within the CECA North East Foundations Group.

The Foundations Group plays an important role in shaping the future of civil engineering, inspiring the next generation of talent and strengthening connections across the industry. This aligns closely with our own passion to deliver beyond construction.

Brilliant to see both Lauren and Chloe stepping into leadership roles and helping drive positive change across the sector. 👏💙

A Week on Site: Work Experience at Teeslink!👷‍♂️🏗️

This week, our team was delighted to welcome local lad, Reuben, on site at our Teeslink Development project in Eaglescliffe, a 54 acre development with the potential to create up to 1,000 new jobs for the region. The scheme is being delivered on behalf of Rula Developments and Stockton-on-Tees Council, providing development ready industrial platforms that will drive major regional investment and growth.

Throughout the week, Reuben worked closely with Simon, gaining hands on insight into the role of a site supervisor. He also spent time learning about different engineering disciplines with John, representing Seymour’s works, and Ian, who introduced him to engineering within remedial works from our VHE Construction team.

Reuben further broadened his experience alongside Cathal and Shahwaiz, seeing first hand how a construction site is managed day to day and gained valuable commercial insight with Luke, our Quantity Surveyor on the project.

A huge thank you to the entire site team for making Ruben feel so welcome, he even wished he could stay longer with !💙💚

World Day for Safety & Health at Work 🌍🦺

Today is an important reminder that safety is found in the everyday, in the small decisions we make, the habits we form and the conversations we have with one another. It’s these moments that truly keep us safe.

We are of the culture we’ve built together, one where safety is led from the top, lived every day and strengthened by the way we look out for each other.

Learning never stops. By meeting our responsibilities, following our standards and taking time to learn from experience, we continue to improve and grow stronger as a business.

Today, we held a safety moment where our team spoke openly about real-life past experiences from site, including roles at previous companies. Each incident was preventable, yet a momentary lapse in judgement led to serious consequences. In an industry where risks are real every day, sharing these stories helps protect others and reinforces why doing things safely matters. Thank you to everyone who had the courage to speak up.

If you see something that isn’t right, raise it…you could be saving a life.

We want everyone to finish each day proud, knowing they’ve done all they can to help ensure we all go home safe, every day.

Supporting Our Communities This Easter! 🐰

At , we are passionate about delivering beyond construction. Together, we aim to make a positive impact in the communities we work. Each year, our Social Value & Engagement Committee organises an Easter Appeal, ensuring eggs are donated to those who might otherwise miss out.

Thank you to all our colleagues for your generous donations to this year’s Easter Egg Appeal. This year, we were proud to support: Footprints in the Community, Ferrybridge Community Centre, The Moses Project and Three13 Training & Enterprise. 🐣

A special thank you to Jeanette, from our Social Value & Engagement Committee, for coordinating the campaign and collecting all the eggs.
