Gardens are long term projects and plants don't like moving around! Having a design will help you to site trees and plants in the right place so they can thrive and give you delicious yields. It's also important to get the right plants for your dreams, type of garden and specific conditions such as light and soil. Once you get the right plants into their best places it's all about looking after them so they can mature into strong abundant food producers in your garden. Anna can help you design and plan your garden, then teach you any skills you are missing in order to look after it.

🌿 Growing herbs with fruit trees — a simple permaculture secret 🍎🌸

In nature, plants don’t grow alone — they support each other. We can do the same in our gardens by growing herbs and companion plants around our fruit trees to form a small, balanced ecosystem.

This is called a permaculture guild, and it’s one of the big themes in my book The Forager’s Garden. It’s an easy, practical way to grow healthier plants, attract pollinators, and build fertility naturally.

We’ll be exploring this in detail on my upcoming Forager’s Garden Workshop — how to design these mini ecosystems for your own garden or allotment.

🍂 Autumn is the time to make new (free!) plants 🌱

Before the leaves drop, take a look around your garden — now’s the perfect time to spot strawberry runners or layered stems on your loganberries and other soft fruits.

Pin them down, let them root, and you’ve got next year’s plants ready for free. It’s a simple, reliable way to fill your forager’s garden, working with the seasons rather than against them. With the strawberry runners we can cut them off and move them to where we want them.

If you’d like to learn more about planning and planting your own long-term edible garden, come along to my Forager’s Garden Course on Saturday 15th November at Archer Lodge, TN38 0QX.
