I won I won I won! I was the overall winner in the print making and paper craft category of The Artisan Founder awards!

They said:

"Hannah Nunn is the wonderful overall winner of the Printmaking & Paper Craft Award, with a body of work that shows just how much possibility there can be in a seemingly simple material.

Her close observation of nature, combined with more than two decades spent developing and refining her work, makes this a particularly fitting award for an artist whose relationship with paper has become so distinctive".

How lovely is that? What a wonderful acknowledgement of my many years of cutting and sticking!! ✂️

Thanks to everyone who voted for me and to the judges who had the final say AND to the mystery person who nominated me (you can come out now 😊)!

What a lovely end to the week. In the morning I'm going to Wales for a holiday so this is a lovely thing to take with me. 💛

Today (31stAugust) is the last chance to cast your vote in awards 2026.

It's been an honour to be a finalist and to be amongst lots of lovely small artisan businesses all doing things with heart and passion and care. I still don't know who nominated me...

This morning I felt like no one would come to my open studio BUT I was very much proved wrong 😊

There were actually thirty two grown ups, two children, two smiley babies and three cute dogs. 

One lady came especially from Manchester with her husband as her 70th birthday treat 🎂🎈🌈

One couple came from Skipton to choose a lamp in real life 🌞

Liz brought her friends from London and Penzance. 

My dear Natalie brought her friend Petra and two of the cute dogs!

There was a couple from Germany (I think)

A couple from Marsden who knew my work but only happened to walk past.

A mother and daughter who only found me when they parked nearby and we're very delighted.

Some friends who bought each other the same Christmas present (cute) 

Lyn and Daniel (always bless em)

And Lisa Slater who often pops in to see if I need anything picking up from town 💛

And Claire (who used to be on Insta as came to help me out with identifying the grasses in some developing wallpaper designs. 🌱

Oh and to the lady with the checked trousers and the smiley baby also in checked trousers your poppy is still on my desk. Get in touch and I'll post it to you. 

Ah I feel so lucky indeed to have such lovely customers. Thank you everyone for coming today and making my day.

In October i wont be opening but you can find me at GNCCF Great Northern Contemporary Craft & Art Fair instead 15th - 18th!

November 14th is when Hannah Hannah will be coming with her beautiful birds. 11-5

December 4th, 5th & 6th I will be open for Hebden Bridge Open Studios 10.30-5

The amazing petition that we've all been singing started by a maker in Slovakia has gathered nearly 70,000 signatures and she has started an Instagram page EUMEM | European Micro Enterprises Movement and a movement! It's important to keep signing wherever you are BUT it turns out the petition does not cover the UK because now that we are no longer in the EU 😭 the legal reality is different.

SO a UK maker Bluebell Bunting Wimborne who has been very informative about the EPR and PPWR here on Instagram has started an open letter campaign and she is going to take the fight to the UK government to try and get as many micro business concessions as possible. If you know if anyone who needs to be sent this letter then do let her know. And do spread it in the micro biz community ( that just autocorrected to microwave businesses🤣)

Did you know that the definition of a micro business is a business with under 10 employees and a turnover of less than 2 million!! Phewie. That includes a lot of us right?

Yesterday marked four years since the studio fire.

I always celebrate the rosebay willowherb at this time and last week in the early morning after the rain it was sparkling!

Rosebay willowherb has the nickname ‘fireweed.’ I used to think it was maybe because of the firey colour their leaves turn in the autumn but then I learned it’s named so because it thrives after a fire!

So it became my power flower giving me strength at that difficult time and showing me that it was possible to grow again from the ashes and come back stronger!

Seeing it bejeweled in refreshing drops of rain was just what my body and brain needed after so many weeks of hot temperatures and dried out earth and the concerning news of so many uncontrollable wildfires burning right now across the world.

We need a bit of collective fireweed energy right now don't we. Do give it a nod when you see some. It has the resilience that we need X

Some kind soul (was it you?) nominated me for The Artisan Founder award and it was such a lovely surprise this week to hear that I have made it through to being one of six finalists in the printmaking and paper craft category.

There are 12 categories altogether across all many kinds of artisan businesses and I’m looking forward to looking through them all and picking my favourites. There will be one winner AND a judges choice in each category. There are some really lovely businesses in my section and I’m very pleased to be among them but of course it would be very lovely to win!

Please will you vote for me?

It’s not ALL down to votes, the panel of judges will have the final say but your vote will count too.

When Kaylie Edwards from The Creative Jugglejoy podcast invited me to be interviewed for an episode she said it wouldn’t be formal and to just see it as a couple of creatives having a chat over a cup of tea! ☕ t’s exactly what it was. We had a lovely conversation about life and business and keeping it all together and I managed to forget it was recording!

Kayliewrote some words to introduce the episode and got right down to the nub of what we talked about and I felt inspired to create this post and them:

‘Building a creative business for more than 20 years doesn’t mean following one perfect plan.

Sometimes it means recognising that the product stocked in Liberty and Harrods still isn’t financially sustainable.

Sometimes it means closing the beautiful shop you worked so hard to open because it no longer leaves you enough space to create.

And sometimes it means rebuilding almost everything after a fire destroys your studio, stock and equipment.

In this episode, artist, designer and maker Hannah Nunn shares an honest glimpse into the decisions behind her wonderfully varied creative career.

From paper-cut cards and lighting to botanical wallpaper, decorative window film and laser-cut treasures, Hannah’s business has grown by allowing one creative idea to lead naturally into another.

What stayed with me most was her definition of success: earning enough to support herself while still having the time and energy to make, notice nature and enjoy a slow walk through the woods on her way to work.

Not endless growth. Not a giant warehouse. A creative business that still leaves room for an actual life.

That sounds pretty brilliant to me’.
