For our third and final post of the flat remodel, we undertook a wide range of tasks to create the perfect living environment. This involved removing the kitchen and meticulously leveling the floor to correct a 50mm discrepancy throughout. How did we achieve this? We removed the top layer of 18mm tongue and groove flooring, revealing a second layer of T&G/plywood. Upon further investigation, we found that the RSJs and floor joists were out of level in some areas. After careful consideration, we determined that the most effective and efficient solution was to skillfully affix battens to the bottom layer of flooring. Each batten was meticulously scribed to a laser-level datum. This process was time-consuming, but the finished level was spot on!
Soundproofing was of paramount concern, so we integrated rockwool insulation between the battens, applied rubber sound-dampening tape, and finished it with a 22mm tongue and groove floating floor, layered over soundproofing underlay and crowned with oak engineered flooring. The client's request for soundproofing was our top priority, and we delivered on this key requirement.
But that's not all! We also insulated the single-skin areas by constructing internal stud walls, covering them with fireboard, and providing a plastered finish to enhance the thermal efficiency.
This project has been a journey, and we're thrilled to share the transformation with you. Your dream space is now closer than ever.
