Heat pumps don’t work 😳🫣😱

We hear this all the time, especially on fb.

Yet here we have a Samsung heat pump heating 250litres of water up to 50°c, at an efficiency of 362%.

Before the fb bandits get on

Legionella - is active between 25°c and 45°c, in stagnant water. This cylinder is replenished most days. It is heated to 50°c, above the range the bacteria like. It is heated to 55°c once a week and held there for an hour.

A twin split air conditioning system installed in a bungalow.

The living room unit will help keep the open plan living/dining/sun room cool in future heat waves.

The bedroom unit will help with a good nights sleep.

Both can heat 🔥 and cool ❄️ for year round comfort

Customer states the heat pump is expensive to run, on inspection of the system:

- system is filled with glycol
- lack of insulation on exterior pipes
- system runs at 50°c flow temperature whatever.
- radiator valves fully open.
- no filter on system
- tundish and pipework not to regs

What we did:
- removed glycol and flushed system
- installed anti freeze valves.
- installed a strainer
- insulated all exterior pipework
- removed and refitted tundish to regs.
- balanced the radiators
- set up the underfloor correctly
- set up weather compensation with a 40°c max flow temp @ -3°c.
- showed the customer how to adjust the weather compensation

Ready for installation this week

A busy week:
- remove old electric boiler
- change 8 radiators
- install new cylinder
- install 14kw heat pump

On its first run the heat pump showed a cop of 3.79 for the hot water, meaning for every kilowatt of electricity used it was producing 3.79 kw of heat for the hot water.

Over 3.5x more efficient than the electric boiler and with the cylinder in place the hot water is now at mains pressure.

If each kilowatt of electricity costs 25p, it’s only costing 6.9p per kilowatt of heated water

First time servicing a Trinaco Activair heat pump, solid units that operate quietly.

This modern property is brilliantly insulated, very thick walls, a cavity, over 100mm of PIR insulation. It’s very good at staying warm, which is good news for the winter 🥶 and means you don’t need as much heating on the spring and autumn. 🍂

However! It gets hot and stays hot in the summer, meaning no amount of fans or leaving windows open will cool it down.

This 3.5kw unit fitted in the master bedroom will help keep the entire upstairs comfortable in the hotter months, allowing everyone to get a peaceful nights sleep 😴
