So many tree surgeons out there... how do you actually know who to trust?

Here's something a lot of people don't realise: tree surgery isn't directly regulated. Technically, anyone can pick up a chainsaw and call themselves a "tree surgeon" with no insurance, no qualifications, no training...

It's worth knowing, because it's your property (and your trees) on the line.

If you're getting quotes, a few honest questions can tell you a lot:

✅ Are they insured? A genuine company will happily show you.
✅ Are they qualified? NPTC/LANTRA certified.
✅ Do they follow British Standards for tree work?
✅ Are they ARB Approved?

Being ARB approved comes from being independently assessed on safety, qualifications, customer care, and the quality of the actual work, by the industry's own governing body.

A few things worth checking:
1. Dead or loose branches hanging above play areas.
2. The branch your swing is tied to - is it strong enough?
3. Signs of rot, fungus or decay on trunks and limbs.
4. Whether your treehouse timber is still sound and safe.
