Colour drenching is a great way to bring a room together—using the same colour across the walls, woodwork, built in furniture and radiators for a smooth, cohesive finish.

For this bedroom, i finished the ceiling in white and drenched everything else in Farrow & Ball Skimming Stone.

Colour trends come and go, but some shades always find their way back into popularity. Elephant’s Breath Farrow & Ball paint is a great example—it’s been a popular choice recently, with several of my latest jobs featuring this colour, and more bookings requesting the same.

On this particular job, the customer wanted a more durable finish and opted for Farrow & Ball Flat Matt paint. From experience, I definitely prefer this over Farrow & Ball Estate Emulsion paint and Farrow & Ball Modern Emulsion paint. It applies smoothly, glides on effortlessly, and leaves a noticeably superior finish.

If you’re set on using Farrow & Ball, I would highly recommend choosing the Flat Matt option for both durability and overall appearance.

I originally decorated this room when the house was first built, finishing it entirely in white. The intention was always to return at a later stage and redecorate with colour once the rest of the project had been completed.

As expected with a new build, there were the usual fine surface settlement cracks and screw pops to prepare. Once the preparation was complete, the room was finished with Pure Brilliant White on the ceilings, F&B Ammonite on the walls, and Aqua Guard Satin on the woodwork—bringing the space in line with the rest of the house.

Selecting the right colour for a customer can sometimes be challenging. The brief I was given was simple: something neutral, but not grey.

After considering a few options, I chose Farrow & Ball Ammonite—a trusted colour that I’ve used successfully on several previous projects. I’m pleased to say the customer was delighted with the result. In fact, they were so happy with the finish that they asked for the kitchen to be completed in the same colour as well.

This stage of the project included two loft rooms, the bathroom ceiling, and the hall, stairs, and landings—all completed and ready for the carpet fitter ✔️

Ceilings: Spray finished in Brilliant White
Walls: Finished in F&B Ammonite
Woodwork: Finished in Aqua Guard Satin

Getting rid of woodchip wallpaper is often considered one of the most challenging jobs for decorators. Even after the physically demanding process of stripping it away, the level of preparation required underneath can still be significant.

While the work is certainly demanding, the satisfaction of transforming the space and achieving a clean, smooth finish makes the effort worthwhile.

This room is the smaller of two that I have recently completed, with one more still to go. Once that’s finished, I’m hoping it will be a while before I come across woodchip wallpaper again.

✨ Another panelling and wallpaper combo complete! ✨

As you can see from the before photos, this room used to feel dark and dingy — the blue walls made it look smaller and not the most inviting place to relax in the evening.

The customer opted for a classic panelling effect on the lower half, finished in Farrow & Ball London Stone No. 6, paired with a beautiful damask-style wallpaper above. The result is a space that feels bright, traditional, relaxing, and elegant.

Little house by the river.
I recently completed this little house for lovely customer in Stanstead Abbotts.
The decor was dark grey and looked it had been applied with a garden spade by the previous owner so was in dire need of the Painters Ink treatment.
Lots of preparation later all ceilings now look smooth with bright white finish, All walls finished in Dulux Nutmeg white and all woodwork throughout the property finished in Eggshell.

As a decorator you always look for the most efficient way to leave the best finish and 99% of times that is to spray it. But after climbing a ladder 5678 times to spray the base on this one I thought I’d crack out the big roller for the top coats 💪🏼
